<p>Under general supervision, conducts complex juvenile, criminal, and civil investigations to support legal proceedings of the County Attorney's Office.</p> <ul> <li>Conducts juvenile, civil, and criminal investigations to determine the nature of alleged offenses, identify responsible parties, and develop witness lists; interviews clients, victims, and witnesses to gather detailed case evidence. </li><li>Collects, evaluates, and synthesizes information from field investigations, surveillance operations, and interviews to support prosecutorial decision-making. </li><li>May direct an investigative team by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring proper evidence handling; coordinates surveillance operations and stake-outs in accordance with legal standards. </li><li>Collaborates with prosecutors, defense attorneys, or judicial personnel to discuss case strategy. Assists attorneys in trial preparation and provides testimony in court proceedings. </li><li>Locates and secures cooperation from missing witnesses or victims; serves subpoenas, warrants, and other legal notices; obtains arrest and search warrants when necessary; coordinates transportation of witnesses and oversees inmate extraditions from other locales. </li><li>May maintain an "on call" status for duty in case of a special need or emergency. </li><li>Represents the office in professional associations and contributes to interagency collaboration. </li><li>Prepares comprehensive investigative reports detailing findings, evidence, and recommendations for prosecutorial review. </li><li>Performs related duties as required. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and county laws relevant to criminal and civil investigations. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of law enforcement procedures, administrative protocols, and investigative techniques. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of evidence collection, preservation, and chain of custody standards. </li><li>Proficiency in analyzing complex case data and drawing logical conclusions. </li><li>Proficiency in preparing clear, concise, and legally sound investigative reports. </li><li>Ability to conduct detailed interviews and interrogations to extract accurate information from witnesses, victims, or perpetrators. </li><li>Ability to effectively coordinate investigative teams. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment under pressure. </li><li>Ability to demonstrate commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and public service values. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of other agencies, other County employees, and the general public, fostering a collaborative and professional work environment. </li><li>Ability to navigate uneven terrain and push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or related field, and </li><li>Two to three years of experience in police administration, supervision, and investigation from a recognized law enforcement agency, or </li><li>Any equivalent combination of training and experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. </li><li>Completion of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy is required. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements: </p> <ul> <li>A criminal background check is required. </li><li>A drug screen is required prior to final offer of employment. </li><li>A valid State of Iowa driver's license is required. </li><li>Be a citizen of the United States. </li><li>CPR/AED and First Aid training is required within one year of hire and maintain annually. </li><li>Candidate must successfully complete firearms qualification within six month of hire and maintain annually. </li><li>Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required. </li><li>Ability to work overtime with minimal advance notice. </li><li>Must meet the minimum requirements as set forth in Iowa Administrative Code 501 Chapter 2. </li><li>Must undergo psychological testing prior to final offer of employment. </li></ul> <p>Polk County is committed to providing a work environment that is representative, at all levels, of the citizens we serve.
