<p>Job Title: Designer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>This position involves the preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates. The role requires analytical competence to effectively interact with a variety of individuals, including engineers.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Acquire a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices. </li><li>Gain a broad understanding of engineering disciplines, including design and constructability as applied to construction methods and materials, and the economics involved. </li><li>Maintain the production and quality of projects, including field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, and departmental databases; manage documents and records according to departmental guidelines. </li><li>Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages. </li><li>Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits. </li><li>Collect field data using a laptop, tablet, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software as necessary. </li><li>Develop working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities. </li><li>Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and maintain pad-mount equipment. </li><li>Present ideas effectively in formal and informal situations, communicate well in writing, and maintain proper ethics with email and telephone communications. </li><li>Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with external clients and agencies. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Entry-level position with an Associate's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering. </li><li>1+ years of experience in the electric utility or telecommunications field is preferred. </li><li>Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) is preferred. </li><li>Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications is desired. </li><li>Proficient in AutoCAD or similar programs is preferred. </li><li>Proficient use of engineering software is preferred. </li><li>Clear and valid driver's license is required as travel to surrounding utility territory is expected. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma is required. </li><li>Associate's degree in Engineering or similar discipline is preferred. </li><li>Skills in engineering, electrical, schematic, blueprint, test equipment, and technical aptitude. </li><li>Comfortable working outdoors with design, drafting, CAD, power distribution, and distribution design. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The position primarily involves outdoor fieldwork.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a contract to hire position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.50/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job</p> <p>classification and length of employment.
