<p>General Function</p> <p>This position encourages student success by providing reference and instructional services, contributing to public service projects, and outreach to faculty and student support services across the College.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>I. Mastery of Subject Matter</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of library and information science. </li><li>Displays an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of library and information science. </li><li>Connects the subject matter with related fields and the college curriculum. </li><li>Stays current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, resource sharing organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops. </li><li>Exhibits an evolving proficiency with Office and Google products, integrated library systems and web-based technologies, with a demonstrated ability to both enhance existing and create new public and internal services using technology. </li></ul> <p>II. Instruction</p> <ul> <li>Plans, develops, and teaches library and information literacy instruction to a diverse student population. </li><li>Provides instructional support through chat, embedded librarianship, one-on-one appointments, and classroom instruction. </li><li>Collaborates with faculty in the design and delivery of information literacy instruction. </li><li>Assists in training other library staff in classroom instruction, embedded librarianship, chat, and one-on-one appointments. </li><li>Stays current in trends and best practices in library instruction. </li><li>Schedules classroom and assigns librarians for library instruction sessions. </li></ul> <p>III. Public Services</p> <ul> <li>Provides high-quality reference services to students, faculty, and staff; assists patrons with complex inquiries, requests, and projects requiring independent judgment and in-depth knowledge in interpreting policies and procedures. </li><li>Staffs service desks and provides effective circulation services, including reserves and study room scheduling. </li><li>Trains students, faculty, and staff in the use of library equipment and resources. </li><li>Develops a working knowledge of all public service points and an in-depth knowledge in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. </li><li>Provides support for other public service activities. </li></ul> <p>IV. Student Success and Outreach</p> <ul> <li>Fosters student success by performing outreach to College departments and units to highlight library resources and services. </li><li>Promotes library resources, spaces, and services to students through attendance at College events and programs on behalf of the library. </li><li>Collaborates with other library departments and committees on outreach events. </li><li>Assists assessment librarian in collecting and analyzing data relating to student success. </li></ul> <p>V. Collection Development</p> <ul> <li>Develops subject resources in assigned areas. </li><li>Collaborates with departmental faculty to assess effectiveness and strength of collection in assigned subject disciplines. </li><li>Participates in program accreditation as necessary. </li></ul> <p>VI. Support of College Policies and Procedures</p> <ul> <li>Provides library services as assigned in a multi-campus environment. </li><li>Interprets and enforces library and college policies and procedures. </li><li>Maintains confidentiality of student information according to current state and federal law. </li><li>Exercises stewardship of college facilities and materials. </li></ul> <p>VII. Participation in College and Division Activities</p> <ul> <li>Participates in meetings and events required by the college and library administrators. </li><li>Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college and library administrators. </li><li>Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues. </li><li>Demonstrates leadership skills. </li><li>Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or on a team. </li></ul> <p>VIII. Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs</p> <ul> <li>Maintains familiarity with college goals, mission and long-range plans. </li><li>Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels. </li><li>Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the college and its constituents. </li><li>Performs responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college and library services. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>An ALA accredited master's degree in Library Science or Information Science; one year experience working in a library.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience providing instruction in face-to-face and online environments </li><li>Demonstrated technology skills with common tools (e.g., Microsoft and Google suite, Springshare platform) </li></ul> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of library policies and procedures </li><li>Demonstrated technology skills, particularly with Springshare products, learning management systems, and other emerging instructional technology </li><li>Knowledge of research procedures and software </li><li>Proficiency with web design and web authoring tools </li><li>Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds </li><li>Excellent communication, collaboration, outreach, and customer service skills </li></ul>
