Sliney Elementary School</p> <p>Library Media Specialist, K-4</p> <p>Position Overview:</p> <p>The Library Media Specialist is a dynamic educator and teacher leader who advances Branford Public Schools' vision of deep learning by designing inclusive, student-centered programs that promote literacy, digital citizenship, and equitable access to diverse resources. This role integrates technology-rich, inquiry-based instruction into the curriculum, fosters collaborative teaching, and contributes to schoolwide efforts to monitor student growth and engagement. The Library Media Specialist also plays a key role in developing a guaranteed and viable elementary library media curriculum that aligns with the Global Learning Competencies while building meaningful partnerships with families, staff, and the community.</p> <p>Supervision Received: Reports to the Building Principal and Director of Elementary Education</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Design inclusive library programming and collections that reflect and celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Branford community, ensuring equitable access to high-interest, multicultural resources. </li><li>Create welcoming physical and virtual spaces that nurture belonging, safety, and creativity for all learners. </li><li>Facilitate authentic learning experiences that cultivate Branford's Global Learning Competencies (GLCs) and promote reading for pleasure and information, critical thinking, creativity, and ethical information use. </li><li>Lead responsible technology integration through digital literacy, digital citizenship education, and the use of emerging tools such as AI, makerspaces, and media production platforms. </li><li>Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and library media specialist colleagues to align library instruction with curriculum priorities and student interests. </li><li>Serve on school-based data and instructional teams to monitor reading growth, student engagement, and program impact. </li><li>Participate in professional learning networks to continuously refine practice and align with the district's job-embedded professional learning strategies. </li><li>Contribute to the development of a multimedia student portfolio system that captures student growth aligned to the GLCs. </li><li>Promote community and family engagement through events like author visits, parent learning nights, and student-led exhibitions. </li><li>Advance the district's initiative to develop a guaranteed and viable elementary library media curriculum, with an emphasis on digital citizenship and alignment to Branford's Definition of Deep Learning </li><li>Other duties, as assigned </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 5 years of experience in an elementary school setting, preferred </li><li>062 Library Media Specialist certification required </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
