The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in exercise science and strength and conditioning. The candidate must possess a strong commitment to educating and mentoring students who are pursuing advanced degrees and careers in strength and conditioning, human performance and allied health professions.</p> <p>The B.S. in Wellness and Exercise Science (WES) is a combination of science, exercise, education, and wellness courses. Existing major requirements include core courses in motor development and motor learning, biology, anatomy, kinesiology, human and exercise physiology, nutrition, exercise prescription, community health, program planning, and social and global health perspectives, along with health and interdisciplinary concentration electives. Students complete a full-semester internship experience where they are immersed into a movement-based setting relevant to their career goals. Current program development includes aligning the curriculum to accreditation standards, as well as establishing pathways that prepare students for professional certifications and graduate studies.</p> <p>About Rhode Island College: Established in 1854, Rhode Island College is a comprehensive mid-size liberal arts institution serving approximately 6000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in five schools. Student-centered and experiential approaches are at the core of the institution. The 180-acre campus is located in historic Providence, Rhode Island.</p> <p>Essential Duties</p> <ul> <li>Teach undergraduate courses in the Wellness and Exercise Science and Physical Education programs including: </li><li>Exercise Physiology </li><li>Kinesiology </li><li>Exercise Prescription </li><li>Strength and Conditioning </li><li>Resistance Training </li><li>Field Experiences in Exercise Science </li><li>Internship in Wellness and Exercise Science </li><li>Introductory courses in Exercise Science </li><li>Supervise Wellness and Exercise Science interns </li><li>Coordinate Motor Lab activities </li><li>Provide expertise in course and program expansion and accreditation </li><li>Advise and mentor prospective and current undergraduate students </li><li>Participate in department, School, and College committees and activities </li><li>Collaborate within the Department, College and community. </li><li>Participate in student advising, program recruitment, and retention </li><li>Participate in curriculum review and development. </li><li>Continue scholarship and professional engagement including supportive efforts for student professional development. </li></ul> <p>Occasional Duties</p> <ul> <li>Perform other duties and responsibilities as established in conversations with the department chair and program stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Possess knowledge in kinesiology, biomechanics, and the professional standards of accreditation. </li><li>Demonstrated competency in exercise testing and prescription. </li><li>Evidence of successful teaching or training experience. </li><li>Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish productive working relationships with colleagues and partner organizations. </li><li>Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Advanced degree in exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, or related discipline. </li><li>National Strength and Conditioning Association- CSCS or American College of Sports Medicine-EP or CEP. </li><li>Experience as a strength and conditioning coach or exercise physiologist. </li><li>Commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service. </li><li>Ability to utilize technology and software in practice. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Higher Education teaching experience. </li><li>Professional experiences in diverse settings. </li><li>Experience using technology for teaching and learning. </li><li>Experience with online and hybrid course delivery. </li></ul> <p>Environmental Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Teaching/instruction is performed in traditional classroom settings, clinical settings, laboratories, and field sites. </li><li>Some travel to community partnership sites required. </li></ul>
