Site: Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, Inc.

Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

Job Summary

We are seeking a post-doctoral scientist with a strong background in computation to lead projects in cardiovascular medicine with a potentially transformative impact on clinical care. Topics of interest to the lab include inverse problems, digital twins, modeling cardiovascular hemodynamics, reinforcement learning for decision support in the intensive care unit, automated electrocardiogram analysis, predicting catastrophic clinical events such as cardiac arrests, and learning novel patient representations from their data. We have a particular interest in critical care medicine, where the stakes are highest, patient complexity is the greatest, and the amount of data far outstrips any clinician's ability to process it.

A key resource for most projects will be a deep data record of patient signals we have assembled, one rare in its scope and size. It includes thousands of patients, millions of hours of signal recordings, coupled to a wealth of data from the electronic medical record. The experience of working with such a rich data source from a nationally recognized institution such as Massachusetts General Hospital should prove invaluable for the applicant's future career aspirations. For analysis we expect the applicant to take advantage of state-of-the-art machine learning tools currently available, from deep learning to denoising diffusion, scientific machine learning, differentiable programming, or neurosymbolic artificial intelligence. There is a tremendous and as yet untapped opportunity to extract synergy from data, analytics, and a practitioner's knowledge of clinical medicine. We aim to help the candidate realize this potential to impact patient care.

A candidate's experience in the lab could lead in a number of future directions, including academia, medical school, or the healthcare industry. Past lab members have successfully pursued all of these directions. Our collective experience straddles them all, and we expect to provide mentorship in all aspects of career development. The lab is a fun, friendly, and collaborative environment that values work-life balance. We are located in the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center of MGH and are active members of the greater Boston science community including MIT, Harvard, and the Broad Institute.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Qualified candidates should have:

A PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Math, Engineering or related quantitative discipline.

Mature coding skills: Python or Julia.

Proficiency with Machine Learning and/or System Modeling

Knowledge of cardiovascular medicine is a plus but not required.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Growth Mindset.

Additional Job Details (if applicable)

EEO Statement

Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
