<p>Summary</p> <p>The Nursing Tutor supports student learning and academic success within the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs at Shawnee Community College. This role involves providing individualized and group tutoring sessions, assisting with the review of classroom and laboratory materials, and reinforcing course concepts to enhance student understanding and performance.</p> <p>Essential Duties or Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Student Support and Academic Tutoring</p> </li><li> <p>Schedule and conduct individual and group tutoring sessions for ADN and LPN nursing students.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize available online and textbook resources to support student learning.</p> </li><li> <p>Assign computer-based tutorials to address areas of academic difficulty.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist students in developing focused review plans based on proctored exam results.</p> </li><li> <p>Review exam content with students after faculty advisement to reinforce learning and address study or test-taking challenges.</p> </li><li> <p>Instructional Support and Skill Development</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor student performance in the nursing lab and provide guidance on appropriate skills application.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate and assist with clinical simulation activities and clinical make-up sessions as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain clinical simulation and laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and readiness for instruction.</p> </li><li> <p>Support students in preparing for successful completion of the NCLEX through targeted review and skills reinforcement.</p> </li><li> <p>Workshops and Skill Building</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and facilitate academic success workshops, including test-taking strategies and study skills development.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in orientation sessions by recommending effective study habits and resources for nursing students.</p> </li><li> <p>Assessment and Exam Proctoring</p> </li><li> <p>Proctor online and classroom exams as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Troubleshoot student access issues with online platforms and educational resources.</p> </li><li> <p>General and Other Duties</p> </li><li> <p>Perform instructional duties as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Carry out other related responsibilities as required and aligned with the scope of the position.</p> </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required </li><li>Current and unencumbered Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license. </li><li>Minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience; experience in nursing education or academic support preferred. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong understanding of nursing concepts, clinical procedures, and NCLEX preparation strategies. </li><li>Proficient in tutoring and academic coaching techniques in both one-on-one and group settings. </li><li>Ability to explain complex clinical concepts in an accessible, student-friendly manner. </li><li>Skilled in using educational technologies, including online learning platforms and simulation tools. </li><li>Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to supporting diverse student populations. </li><li>Strong organizational and time management abilities to coordinate multiple instructional activities. </li><li>Ability to identify and respond to individual learning needs and promote academic success. </li></ul>
