<p>The Chemistry Division is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate in the EPIP group.</p> <p>The successful candidate will use pulse radiolysis as a tool to study fundamental molecular energy conversion processes such as charge separation, transfer/transport and recombination, as well as projects with applications in light-driven chemical transformations, quantum information science, microelectronics and energy storage.</p> <p>The research will involve the use of pulse radiolysis at the Chemistry Division's 9 MeV Laser Electron Accelerator Facility (LEAF) to rapidly generate excited or charged states for study by transient absorption in the UV/Vis, IR and microwave regions. These studies will give information about kinetics and thermodynamics of electron/electron/proton transfer reactions, charge mobilities, radical reactivity, molar absorptivity spectra, and more.</p> <p>This position is for a 2-year term.</p> <p>The work will be under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Bird.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Planning experiments, preparing samples, and conducting experiments at LEAF. </li><li>Data analysis (e.g. fitting transient absorption data, making plots of spectra). </li><li>Writing papers and presenting work at seminars and conferences. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>PhD in physical chemistry, or a related field. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in the field of photochemistry/catalysis, electrochemistry/catalysis, organic electronics or spectroscopy. </li><li>Use of pulse radiolysis, optical transient absorption or related spectroscopic methods </li><li>Proficiency in solution preparation, simple purification, characterization (glovebox, Schlenk line, NMR etc.) </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <ul> <li>This will be an onsite position. </li><li>BNL policy requires that after obtaining a PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events. </li></ul>
