<p>Job Details</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>Under the supervision of the Principal, the Community Coordinator will perform duties related to developing and improving community relations. The Community Coordinator will support the school in its efforts to increase and maintain communication between the school and our students, families, staff, and community partners and other community organizations and high schools and colleges. The Community Coordinator will similarly work to develop and sustain positive relations with other schools in the community and other organizations within the NYC Department of Education. The Community Coordinator will also work with local businesses, corporations and community-based organizations to solicit interest in supporting and/or providing sites for the school's fieldwork, internship, community service or community farming programs. Current groups working with the school include: Arts in Blue, Brown Media Productions, National Cares Mentoring Movement and GIRLS Inc.. Performs related work.</p> <p>Reports to:</p> <p>Principal</p> <p>Key Relationships:</p> <p>Serves as a liaison between school administration and community groups by coordinating and facilitating communication between the school, staff, students, families, community organizations, businesses, government agencies and the communities that these vital organizations represent.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintains ongoing contact with community based organizations (CBO's) that are involved with providing services to support the school's educational programs. </li><li>Assists students and staff in building relationships with external partners including those connected to the school. </li><li>Meets with community leaders and the administration to plan community events. </li><li>Meets regularly and communicate with community partners to schedule a calendar of events for the fiscal year. </li><li>Coordinates and supervises various outreach programs between the school and the neighboring community. </li><li>Responsible for the supervision, planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of community development programs. </li><li>Develops, coordinates and monitors partnerships and community development programs associated with the PTA and CBO's. </li><li>Prepares evaluation reports; performs analyses; and reviews program plans, funding and performance with various CBO's. </li><li>Works with our various departments and Parent Association to support and develop the community workshops. </li><li>Prepares correspondence, documents, and other forms of written communication for internal and external community outreach purposes. </li><li>Provides logistical and administrative support to the Parent Coordinator and the Principal related to community outreach and parent engagement. </li><li>Encourages participation from the school's community groups in recreational activities and assists with the provision of related operational support including outreach to community agencies. </li></ul> <p>Collaborative Leadership and Practice:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as an advisor to the principal, providing leadership for coordinating work of different school partners. </li><li>Leads the school needs assessment and community assets identification process in support of the Community Schools learning strategy. </li><li>Engages the school community (administrators, teachers, non-teaching staff, Parent Coordinator, PTA, community members) to support student achievement and align resources to the Community Schools vision and goals. </li><li>Sits on the school Leadership Team (SLT). </li><li>Convenes and facilitates Collaborative Planning meetings to make decisions on managing and monitoring the effectiveness of program and service partners, and ensure the effective and efficient use of resources and partnerships. </li><li>Supports the development and successful implementation of the school's Community School Plan and its inclusion in the Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP). </li><li>Works with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and track progress. </li><li>Develops strong relationships with parents, students, and teachers, and ensure that all stakeholders understand what a community school is and how it supports student achievement. </li><li>Manages partnerships to ensure that ongoing programs are effective, sustainable, seamlessly integrated into the workings of the school, as well as developing new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs. </li><li>Serves as key contact for programs and services, including the communication and coordination of activities. </li><li>Collects, analyzes, and uses data to inform decision-making and program evaluation. </li><li>Maintains up-to-date records and required grant paperwork for all programs, including agreements for all partners and vendors. </li><li>Participates in grant-seeking and other fund-development activities. </li></ul> <p>Expanded Learning Time (ELT):</p> <ul> <li>Works with the School Leadership Team (SLT), teachers, and partner agencies to integrate expanded learning and enrichment activities before, during, and after the school day. </li><li>Builds relationships and mechanisms to effectively link the school day to expanded learning activities. </li><li>Assists the school in identifying outside providers for ELT as necessary. </li></ul> <p>Attendance Improvement:</p> <ul> <li>Serves as a key member on the school's attendance team. </li><li>Assists with data collection and research, and prepares relevant data to bring to meetings. </li><li>Helps to organize and oversee needs assessment; seeks input from teachers, school staff, parents, and students to determine the ongoing needs of students and families. </li><li>Identifies high-need students, coordinates with teachers to target interventions; tracks and monitors the impact of interventions. </li></ul> <p>Family and Community Empowerment</p> <ul> <li>Works with the Principal and School Leadership Team to create strong school-to-home partnerships; cultivates parents as leaders in the school. </li><li>Attends Community Education Council meetings, local police precinct community council meetings, and Community Board monthly meetings. </li><li>Participates in community groups and committees; supports events that promote family and community empowerment. </li><li>Provides oversight and coordination of services and programs for students, families, and the community during and after the school day and throughout the year. </li></ul> <p>Wellness and Integrated Supports:</p> <p>Serves as a point person for coordinating health and mental health services in conjunction with the Office of Community Schools.</p> <p>Identifies local community resources and develops new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs</p> <p>Qualification Requirements:</p> <p>Minimum</p> <ul> <li>A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or </li><li>High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or </li><li>Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above. </li></ul> <p>Preferred</p> <ul> <li>Public speaking ability and good people skills. </li><li>Ability to interact with people of all social and economic levels. </li><li>Prior experience in school setting and interaction with students, parents, and school staff. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. </li><li>Ability to work with students, teachers, and supervisors. </li><li>Knowledge of school program objectives. </li><li>Strong literacy skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues when necessary. </li><li>Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. </li><li>Knowledge of New York City neighborhoods </li><li>Ability to be flexible and work non-traditional hours when needed </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule:</p> <p>This is a 12 month, 35 hour per week annual assignment. Position will require flexibility with respect to work hours in order to meet the needs of the school community, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
