Candidates must possess the background and diverse skills needed to assist the Principal with the supervision and the direction of the instructional program, the evaluation of personnel, support and supervision of students, the management of the school, and such other duties delegated by the Principal. The Assistant Principal at the elementary level serves as the pupil services administrator for the building, therefore background in special education programming and supervision is preferred.</p> <p>Requirement: Intermediate Administrative Certificate (092)</p> <p>Work Year: 200 days</p> <p>Major Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Communication</p> <ul> <li>Promotes a positive, caring climate for learning. </li><li>Helps to develop and maintain effective communications with students, staff, and families. </li><li>Assists in maintaining direct relations with parents/caregivers and the community. </li><li>Facilitates procedures for the reporting of pupil progress to parents. </li></ul> <p>Instructional Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Considers the needs of students and the community in developing the school program. </li><li>Assists in the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum and its effect on the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of students. </li><li>Shares responsibility for the general growth, development, safety, and health of the students in the school. </li></ul> <p>Operations (Budget, Facilities, Organization)</p> <ul> <li>Participates in the development of the school budget within the guidelines provided by the Superintendent, as requested by the Principal. </li><li>Participates in the development of campus improvement plans with the principal on the maintenance, repair, and improvement of building, grounds, and equipment. </li><li>Promotes health and safety standards. </li><li>Assists with the management of student behaviors in support of a healthy school climate and partnerships with families. </li><li>Aids in the preparation of the school schedule and testing coordination. </li><li>Reviews the organization and recommends to the Principal changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. </li></ul> <p>Evaluation and Professional Growth</p> <ul> <li>Evaluates both certified and non-certified staff in accordance with the evaluation program. </li><li>Assist the Principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff. </li><li>Encourages faculty participation in staff development programs for personal and professional growth. </li><li>Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignments. </li><li>Assists the Principal in identifying, planning, and implementing staff development programs. </li></ul> <p>Special Education/504 Support</p> <ul> <li>Ensure the implementation of policies and procedures for 504 plans and special education services in compliance with federal and state regulations. </li><li>Oversee the evaluation and identification process for students who may require accommodations or specialized instruction under Section 504 and IDEA. </li><li>Conduct meetings with parents, students, and educational professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 plans that address the student's achievement in each of the District's Core Curriculum Standards. </li><li>Provide training and professional development for staff on special education law, accommodations, and effective instructional strategies for students with disabilities. </li><li>Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of accommodations and support services for students with disabilities, making adjustments as needed to ensure student success. </li></ul> <p>Authority</p> <ul> <li>The Assistant Principal is responsible to, serves under, and is evaluated by the school </li><li>Principal and assumes full responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal. </li></ul> <p>Candidates interested in being considered for this position should submit an online application, and include a cover letter, resume, three letters of recommendation, transcripts from all post-secondary institutions, and a copy of current 092 certification.</p> <p>Click here for a message from WHPS to our prospective employees!</p> <p>Equity and Anti-Racism Vision</p> <p>We, the members of West Hartford Public Schools, dedicate ourselves</p> <p>to the pursuit of equity.
