<p>Provide quality care and education for the children at the Eccles Lab School as lead mentor early childhood teacher.</p> <p>Provide mentoring to the college lab students to create a meaningful learning environment. Model culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices by implementing anti-bias education approach, conscious discipline, High Scope and Emergent Curriculum planning. Talk through why and how planning has occurred of explorations and investigations in the classroom and point out teachable moments of guiding children's behavior using conscious discipline practices. Provide suggestions and feedback to students in their planning and implementation of activities for developmentally appropriate practices and to align with ongoing curriculum in the classroom.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties</p> <ul> <li>Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for the children, adhering to Utah's State Licensing, child care quality system (ECERS/ITERS observation rating scale), and NAEYC Accreditation standards. </li><li>Conduct ongoing assessment of environment to ensure ECERS/ITERS rating scale is above 4s in ratings, documentation boards are completed monthly to communicate information regarding learning to families, documentation of learning and work samples are thoughtful arranged in classroom environment to reflect ongoing explorations and inquiries. </li><li>Ensure the teaching team is maintaining a high-quality environment using these standards systems. </li><li>Prepare and implement weekly developmentally appropriate lesson plans which support and promote the children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. </li><li>Complete all needed documentation as it pertains to the classroom needs, such as calendar, child portfolios, developmental screenings, NAEYC Accreditation classroom portfolios, documentation boards, etc. </li><li>Lead the teaching team in observing children's interests and inquiry. </li><li>Lead the teaching team to plan curriculum following Emergent Curriculum and High Scope Curriculum so that investigations and explorations in the classroom provide children with in-depth inquiry and learning over time. </li><li>Plan and implement explorations and investigations in a hands-on, play-based manner. </li><li>Under direction of the Family and Human Studies Department implement the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Child Development Lab School. </li><li>Observe, record, and assess the development of children to establish individual goals for each child and incorporate activities that can support the development of these goals on a daily basis. </li><li>Take anecdotal notes and photo evidence of children's actions and talk in the classroom that provides evidence of their development in all areas: social, emotional, cognitive, language, and approaches to learning. </li><li>Enter documentation of each child's development into COR Advantage and organize evidence in child portfolios. </li><li>Utilize assessment information to plan curriculum and set goals with families. </li><li>Establish productive relationships with all college lab students to model and explain teaching techniques and developmentally appropriate, responsive practices in the Lab School. </li><li>Meet with students to give feedback and suggestions on their planned activities, provide written feedback to students in their lab packets. </li><li>Establish productive relationships with families including daily communication with parents, parent-teacher chats, and family events. </li><li>Engage in culturally responsive collaboration and communication with families. </li><li>Collaborative and set goals with families for individual children and follow-up with communication on goals or new goals as they arise. </li><li>Listen to and be open to various family practices. </li><li>Meet with families on a one-on-one basis to plan and implement behavioral plans, as needed. </li><li>Participate in demonstrations and/or presentations during the year. </li><li>Plan and conduct field trips for the children in their classroom. </li><li>Organize and maintain NAEYC accreditation class portfolio, with all required evidence. </li><li>Know and understand the 7 standards and various sub-standards for classroom portfolios. </li><li>Collect anecdotal, photo, and video evidence of meeting standards and organize in classroom portfolio PowerPoint that will be reviewed by the NAEYC Assessor. </li><li>Guide classroom teaching team in collecting and organizing evidence. </li><li>Mentor and coordinate part-time staff to meet all state licensing, child care quality system, and NAEYC Accreditation requirements. </li><li>Support a positive workplace environment. </li><li>Assist in monthly in-service training and writing of the newsletter. </li><li>Provide suggestions and feedback to the Director as to topics for monthly meetings. </li><li>Provide specific examples and additional knowledge of topics as presently to staff in monthly meetings. </li><li>Assist in guiding the discussion on training topics. </li><li>Share knowledge gained in professional development opportunities (e.g. national conferences) with teaching staff at following meetings. </li><li>Perform as Director designee of the Eccles Lab School in the periodic absence of the Director. </li><li>Ensure staffing ratios are maintained in each classroom, adjust staffing to ensure ratios are met in each class, and answer prospective parent questions, </li><li>Follow policies and regulations of state licensing and the college in the Director's absence. </li><li>Be prepared to meet with Child Care Licensing analyst in an unannounced visit in the Director's absence. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development or related field (ECD, FHS, FHD, FCS). </li><li>One (1) to two (2) years direct, paid, full-time work experience as a teacher of young children and can provide successful work experience documentation. </li><li>NOT have been convicted of any crimes against children. </li><li>Provide evidence of at least 18 credits in early childhood education or related field, a current TB test, health evaluation, child care food handlers permit, first aid certificate and complete a criminal background screening. </li></ul> <p>Part time work experience may be considered on a prorated basis.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Basic managerial functions/skills. </li><li>Experience as a Master Teacher in mentoring students and new teachers in early care and education </li><li>Five (5) years' experience providing direct care to young children (birth to 5 years). </li><li>Experience as a lead teacher in an early childhood education setting. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Child development including all ages and stages of development. </li><li>Appropriate developmental practices. </li><li>Adult learning theory and mentoring strategies. </li><li>Health and safety regulations for childcare facilities. </li><li>NAEYC Accreditation Standards. </li><li>State licensing regulations. </li></ul> <p>ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Work with very young children in both small and large group settings. </li><li>Implement innovative and responsive teaching strategies and caregiving practices with young children. </li><li>Mentor college students in teaching methods and model responsive practices in early childhood education. </li><li>Relate and communicate effectively with a variety of personalities. </li><li>Based on assessment, plan and implement lesson plans, field trips and other activities. </li><li>Use technology in literate and innovative ways. </li><li>Maintain commitment to professionalism. </li><li>Be dependable, take initiative, and work independently. </li><li>Follow through with directions and guidance of the Director. </li><li>Resolve problems and conflicts in a professional manner. </li><li>Exhibit social maturity, physical endurance and emotional stability required to take charge of a group of preschool children. </li><li>Sight and sound supervision is required within classrooms, playgrounds, and outdoors (campus walks). </li><li>Ability to be active with children (music and movement activities), get on child's level (by stooping, squatting, or bending) is required. </li><li>Ability to lift boxes and move furniture is required. </li><li>Ability to lift children and materials up to 40 lbs. is required. </li><li>Regular exposure to communicable illnesses, and bodily fluids. </li><li>Receive a minimum of 20 hours of documented in-service training per year. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. </li><li>Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community
