<p>Description</p> <p>This position ensures all requests for Emergency Services for Aiken County are handled promptly and appropriately. This involved overseeing the duties of shift personnel, performing rescue operations and providing patient care at the paramedic level.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <p>JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Note: The list below is not comprehensive; this job is also responsible for other duties as assigned.</p> <ol> <li> <p>Shift Management - The incumbent is responsible for monitoring dispatch and ensuring the appropriate personnel and equipment is sent to each call received. This involves knowing where all ambulances (10), quick response vehicles (2), and private 911 providers are located, and based upon the severity of the need, matching proximity with the appropriate level of care required. The incumbent also reviews all records of all calls at the end of the shift for completeness, accuracy, and patient care quality.</p> </li><li> <p>Patient Care - This position is responsible for being out in the community during the shift, and to respond to calls when needed and appropriate. Based upon proximity, the incumbent may be the first responder to a situation and stabilize it until an ambulance arrives. The incumbent is primarily responsible for all extrications during the shift, and for evaluating the need for any specialized resources or mutual aid which may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Administrative Duties - The incumbent will complete performance evaluations on all shift members, review timesheets, and create any required accident/injury reports or other reports needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Community Relations - This position interacts with internal and external agencies and the public for education and complaint resolution.</p> </li><li> <p>Training - The incumbent participates in training as needed to maintain the highest level of patient care and ensure that all shift members receive training they need based upon assessment of the patient records submitted.</p> </li></ol> <p>The incumbent operates with very limited supervision and is largely free to exercise independent judgement on assigning resources, obtaining additional ones when needed, and in evaluating patient care needs.</p> <p>The major challenges of the job include the size of the County - over 1000 square miles - and ability to adequately cover when there is a true emergency. Further, the incumbent will generally be involved in the more critical cases, and being able to make sound decisions very quickly is critical to the life support of the patient.</p> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:</p> <p>Moving patients up to 500 pounds; mechanical extrication equipment up to 100 pounds; supply boxes up to 40 pounds</p> <p>Typical Qualifications</p> <p>REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Minimum Level of Job-Related Education: Degree in related field</p> <p>Minimum Amount of Job-Related Experience: 8-10 years of experience, at least 4 in supervision</p> <p>Minimum Level of any Required Qualifications, Licenses, Certificates, Registrations, or any Relevant Knowledge, Job Skill or Equivalent Experience: paramedic, ACLS, BLS, Extrication, and HAZMET certifications</p>
