<p>THE POSITION</p> <p>The City of Carson is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor (Part-Time):</p> <p>Come join the Community Services department and help create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for residents of all ages. The Recreation Center Assistant supports the daily operations of a community recreation center by coordinating programs, supervising activities, and creating positive recreational experiences that strengthen community connections.</p> <p>Ideal Candidate:</p> <p>We are seeking a candidate who is organized, community-focused, and passionate about recreation and public service. The ideal candidate enjoys working with diverse populations, collaborating with staff and neighborhood partners, and developing programs that promote wellness, teamwork, and inclusion. This role requires strong communication and leadership skills to supervise activities, ensure participant safety, support staff and volunteers, and assist with events, leagues, and special programs. The position plays an important role in maintaining a safe and active recreation environment while helping deliver high-quality services that enhance the quality of life for the community.</p> <p>Position Schedule</p> <p>Schedule may vary between Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM-9:00 PM & Saturday-Sunday, 12:00 PM-5:00 PM. Weekends are a requirement in this role.</p> <p>REQUIRED DOCUMENTS (must be attached to the application prior to submission):</p> <ul> <li>Transcripts (unofficial or official) reflecting completion of two (2) years of college courses in Recreation or related field. </li></ul> <p>Note: Applications submitted without required documents will be considered incomplete and disqualified from the process.</p> <p>Under general supervision, assists in the supervision and operation of a community recreation center; and to perform related duties as required.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES</p> <p>(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.)</p> <ul> <li>Plans, organizes, and supervises a variety of recreational activities at a recreation center. </li><li>Acts as liaison to the surrounding neighborhood to improve recreational programming and recommends new programs. </li><li>Coordinates activities of leagues and tournaments assigned to recreation center; monitors registration of participants in programs. </li><li>Enforces rules and regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of participants. </li><li>Conducts routine inspections of facilities and equipment. </li><li>Assists in budget preparation and monitors recreation budget expenditures in specified areas. </li><li>Requisitions supplies and equipment. </li><li>Drafts promotional materials, correspondence and reports. </li><li>Recruits seasonal, part-time and volunteer staff. </li><li>Supervises, trains and evaluates personnel. </li><li>Attends meetings and training sessions. </li><li>Provides information to and consults with the public. </li><li>Manages fund raisers and snack bar operation. </li><li>Reconciles bank statements. </li><li>Monitors and maintains workfare programs. </li><li>Monitors contract services provided by outside organizations for special events. </li><li>Works closely with Sheriff's department and gang task forces by monitoring and logging activity on a daily basis as well as meets and confers with Sheriff supervision personnel on a daily basis. </li><li>Performs related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education and/or Experience:</p> <p>Any combination equivalent to two (2) years of college courses in recreation or related field and three (3) years of experience in recreation. Full time paid experience in recreation may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Principles of supervision. </li><li>Sports, games and group activities. </li><li>Rules, practices and equipment used in diversified recreation program. </li></ul> <p>Skill and/or Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Learn and apply first aid and safety technique. </li><li>Organize recreational activities for varied segments of the community. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. </li></ul> <p>License and Certificate:</p> <p>Possession of a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate is desirable.</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS</p> <p>Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
