<p>Position Title: Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing</p> <p>Teaching Certificate Required: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Endorsement/Certification.</p> <p>Previous Teaching Experience Required: Preferred but not required.</p> <p>General Description of Position Duties:</p> <p>Complete the duties as an DHH teacher of record and strive to empower students with hearing loss to reach their full potential by providing specialized instruction, utilizing assistive technology, and advocating for their educational and social needs, fostering an inclusive learning environment.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Instructional Duties: Develop and deliver curriculum tailored to students with hearing impairments, addressing both core and expanded core subjects. This includes providing direct instruction, either one-on-one, in small groups, or through push-in services within general education classrooms. </li><li>Assessment and Planning: Conduct evaluations to determine the impact of hearing loss on student learning. Collaborate with educational teams to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that outline specific goals and accommodations. Depth of Knowledge in Article 7. </li><li>Consultation and Collaboration: Work closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to provide information and support regarding hearing loss. Offer in-service training to educate staff and peers about the needs of students with hearing impairments. </li><li>Use of Amplification Devices: Manage and support the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other amplification devices to enhance students' auditory experiences in educational settings. </li><li>Travel Requirements: The DHH teacher will need to travel between multiple schools to serve students with hearing impairments, providing services across various educational settings. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Deaf Education is preferred. Some positions may prefer or require additional certifications, such as Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS) certification. </li><li>Licensing: Candidates must hold a valid Indiana teaching license for Deaf or Hard of Hearing education. </li><li>Communication Skills: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues. </li></ul> <p>Physical and Mental Efforts:</p> <ul> <li>This position requires a high level of physical and mental endurance </li><li>Sitting in an office/classroom environment, performing tasks on a computer or other technical devices. </li><li>Frequent standing, particularly for sustained periods of time </li><li>Frequent walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one part of the building to another. </li><li>Constantly talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas to colleagues and/or students accurately, loudly, or quickly </li><li>Ability to hear and listen to detailed information through oral communication. </li><li>Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision. </li><li>Ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time. </li><li>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
