<p>The City of Virginia Beach - Department of Public Works is looking to hire a Motor Equipment Operator III to join our Street Maintenance Asphalt team.</p> <p>Motor Equipment Operator III Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Operate heavy-duty, multi-purpose equipment-including single and tandem dump trucks, motor graders, backhoes, excavators, asphalt rollers, snowplows, snow spreaders, front-end loaders, and other equipment -across various terrains and in all weather conditions.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform maintenance and repair work on asphalt roads.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform and conduct routine inspections and basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, reporting any mechanical issues for repair.</p> </li><li> <p>Understand oral and written instructions accurately to ensure safe and efficient operations.</p> </li><li> <p>Serve as acting crew leader in the supervisor's absence, providing guidance and oversight to team members.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong knowledge of work zone safety practices and traffic control procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize a work management database system to track tasks and document work performed.</p> </li><li> <p>Comply with safety and drug testing requirements. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal and organizational policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License - Class A issued by Virginia or the State of North Carolina.</p> </li><li> <p>This is an Alpha I and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes, and snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. *</p> </li><li> <p>Pre-employment physical required</p> </li><li> <p>Class A CDL required</p> </li></ul> <p>CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:</p> <ul> <li> <p>$1,000 with first paycheck</p> </li><li> <p>$1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)</p> </li><li> <p>$2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating)</p> </li></ul> <p>The City of Virginia Beach complies with all federal mandates related to positions requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
