<p>As a member of the Event Staff at Utah Valley University's UCCU Center, you play a meaningful role in creating safe, welcoming, and memorable experiences for every guest. You'll be the first point of contact at major campus events-greeting attendees, validating tickets, assisting with seating and ADA accommodations, and helping maintain smooth crowd flow. Your presence and attentiveness help set the tone for positive guest interactions.</p> <p>In this position, you'll develop practical skills in customer service, communication, problem-solving, and incident response. You'll learn how to proactively identify issues, de-escalate minor conflicts, and coordinate with Event Security and Supervisors when needed. This is a great opportunity to build confidence, contribute to a high-energy team environment, and make a visible impact at one of UVU's premier event venues.</p> <ul> <li>Guest Services & Wayfinding: Welcome guests; provide directions, seating assistance, and ADA support; resolve routine questions and complaints with empathy and professionalism. </li><li>Ticketing & Access Control non-screening: Scan tickets/credentials; verify seating locations; prevent pass-backs; redirect or escalate suspected fraud. </li><li>Crowd Management: Monitor aisles, concourses, stairs, and portals for congestion; execute hold/release procedures; maintain clear egress; report hazards. </li><li>Policy Communication: Politely enforce venue policies bag size, re-entry rules, prohibited behaviors; escalate refusals per protocol. </li><li>Incident Observation & Reporting: Recognize concerning behavior impairment, disorderly conduct, medical needs; notify control/dispatch; complete concise incident statements as directed. </li><li>Emergency Readiness: Follow staff movement and guest communication directions during alarms, evacuations, or shelter-in-place; support ADA evacuations per plan. </li><li>Professional Presence: Maintain assigned post; uphold service standards; keep areas tidy; support opening and close-out checklists. Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>High school diploma or GED. </p> <p>Preferred Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with Two Way Radios is preferred. </li><li>Experience with events and crowd management is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of and ability to work respectfully and professionally with all guests and staff attending or working with the UCCU Center and Utah Valley University. </li><li>Knowledge of suspicious activity and behaviors. </li><li>Knowledge of where to find help with ticketing issues, an unruly guest, a medical emergency etc. </li></ul> <p>Skills</p> <ul> <li>Skills in effectively dealing with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness. </li><li>Fantastic communication and social skills, including the ability to listen and deescalate tense situations. </li></ul> <p>Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to read small print. </li><li>Ability to climb steps repeatedly. </li><li>Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines. </li><li>Ability to stand for long periods of time. </li><li>Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, dark/dim/absence of lighting etc. </li><li>Ability to bend, stretch, reach and kneel without restriction. </li><li>Ability to stay calm in an emergency or confrontational situation. </li><li>Ability to present a professional, polished appearance. </li></ul>
