<p>WHO ARE WE?</p> <p>Bordering Denver to the south, the City of Englewood is a vibrant city of over 34,000 residents and over 2,100 businesses. It is a tight-knit community with a small city atmosphere, yet has all of the benefits associated with the larger Denver metropolitan area. The city is served by light rail and bus transit systems linking the community to downtown Denver and other locations, including Denver International Airport. The city owns a golf course, water park, and 17 programmed parks.</p> <p>Over 700 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees work for the city, which is a full-service city, providing policing, water, sewer, and other services to the community. Voters elect a seven member City Council which sets policies, makes laws (ordinance) and approves the city's budget. The Council appoints a City Attorney and a City Manager, who is responsible for managing the day to day aspects of the city's departments.</p> <p>DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW</p> <p>The Department of Public Works constructs, repairs, and maintains the infrastructure of the city, including streets, alleys, surface drainage, traffic systems, traffic markings and signs, and vehicles. Public Works also provides engineering expertise for public improvement projects and engineering assistance to other departments.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>The Traffic Signal Technician Performs skilled work in installation, repair and maintenance of all traffic signals, traffic signal equipment, street lighting, sidewalk accent lighting, school flasher beacons, and pedestrian push button activated systems, traffic network infrastructure and components. Performs technical underground locating of traffic facilities as a tier 1 member of UNCC. This is not an entry level position. Relevant experience working with traffic signals is required.</p> <p>REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS</p> <p>Reports to: Traffic Operations Supervisor</p> <p>Direct Reports: None</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Performs skilled work in installation and preventative and corrective maintenance on all traffic signal equipment including poles, mast arms, signal heads, pull boxes, controller cabinets, MMU's, controllers, UPS systems, school flasher beacons, pedestrian push button activated systems, fiber optic cable and traffic network components. </li><li>Install power meter pedestals and breaker panels feeding traffic assets. </li><li>Performs annual certification of all malfunction monitor units </li><li>Installs and maintains emergency vehicle detection, emergency vehicle preemption, PTZ cameras and signal communications. </li><li>Setup, install and maintain all traffic network switches, devices and wireless spread spectrum network radios. </li><li>Monitors performance of traffic devices utilizing features of computerized master control software (Econolite Centracs) . </li><li>Maintains accurate records relating to traffic activities, problems and repairs relating to traffic signals, signs and markings. </li><li>Performs underground locates of traffic signal wiring, communications lines / fiber optic lines during and after business hours for Traffic Operations. </li><li>Set up / maintain traffic control per MUTCD while working in city ROW </li><li>Performs maintenance and repairs to city owned streetlighting and school Zone flashing beacons. </li><li>Performs fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs and signposts as required. </li><li>Performs installation and removal of pavement markings. </li><li>Operates bucket truck, maintains painting equipment and roadway grinding equipment. </li><li>Installs and maintains copper twisted pair cable and fiber optic communications cables. </li><li>Assist with maintaining inventory of traffic signal equipment and related materials. </li><li>Responds to after-hour emergencies when on-call in monthly rotation. </li><li>Repairs malfunctioning, knocked down, or inoperable traffic regulatory devices. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to be available and work after hours and weekends on call for snow plowing activities as necessary. </li><li>Tree trimming as required to maintain visibility of traffic control devices and signs. </li><li>Maintaining a clean and orderly shop. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned and required. </li></ul> <p>PREPARATION AND TRAINING</p> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>High School Education or GED </li></ul> <p>Work Experience</p> <ul> <li>A minimum of 2 years of traffic signal experience is required. </li></ul> <p>Certifications and/or Licensures</p> <ul> <li> <p>IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification (or obtain within 6 months)</p> </li><li> <p>IMSA Signs and Markings Technician level I (or obtain within 12 months)</p> </li><li> <p>IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I (Required)</p> </li><li> <p>IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level II (or obtain within 12 months)</p> </li><li> <p>IMSA Roadway Lighting Technician Level I (or obtain within 24 months)</p> </li></ul> <p>Required Driver's License</p> <ul> <li>Valid Driver's License </li><li>Class B CDL within 6 months of hire </li></ul> <p>An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <p>Knowledge</p> <p>Working knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Traffic signal maintenance </li><li>Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices </li><li>Maintenance of intersection communications </li><li>Experience working with fiber optics </li><li>Network component settings </li></ul> <p>Basic knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Design and production of traffic signs </li><li>Installation of traffic signs </li><li>Installation and maintenance of pedestrian crosswalks </li></ul> <p>Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Computer Skills - Strong skills are required to test, program and install traffic signal equipment, design, fabricate and install traffic signs.</p> </li><li> <p>Communication - Strong skills needed to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, City administrative staff, other City employees and representatives of major vendors, community organizations, institutions, other governmental agencies and the general public.</p> </li><li> <p>Basic written skills needed for the report of malfunction condition and status for manufacturer repair.</p> </li><li> <p>Analytical - Strong skills are required for fault isolation in field maintenance, and for the design and application of traffic signal modifications.</p> </li><li> <p>Mechanical - Strong skills are required to operate tools used for traffic signal construction, maintenance with live voltage, and traffic sign installation.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to operate aerial lifts, drill press, pneumatic tools, and jackhammer.</p> </li><li> <p>Mathematical - Basic skills needed for crosswalk layout.</p> </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Work is performed primarily outdoors and occasionally in the shop. The employee is exposed to various weather conditions including wet, hot and cold conditions.
