<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is accepting resumes for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position in Biomedical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall, 2025.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Teach core undergraduate courses in the biomedical engineering fields. </li><li>Develop and teach core and advanced courses and laboratories in </li></ul> <p>biomedical engineering and bioengineering areas that are listed in the</p> <p>current biomedical engineering curriculum.</p> <ul> <li>Initiate and pursue a vibrant research agenda in biomedical engineering or </li></ul> <p>related fields in biomedical sciences that may lead to innovations.</p> <ul> <li>Develop grant proposals to secure research and educational funding. </li><li>Publish in refereed journals and professional conferences; Serve on </li></ul> <p>department, school, university or community committees.</p> <ul> <li>Actively assist in the pursuing and maintenance of program accreditation. </li><li>Advise students based on the needs of the department. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline in biomedical </li></ul> <p>sciences by the start date of appointment.</p> <ul> <li>A record of excellence in research and innovation. </li><li>A record of excellence in scholarly publications in biomedical engineering </li></ul> <p>and science field.</p> <ul> <li>A commitment to teaching at the undergraduate levels. </li><li>A dedication to service in both the research community and the university. </li><li>The successful candidate is expected to have a background and expertise </li></ul> <p>to teach courses in the curriculum, for example, but no limited to, bio-fluid</p> <p>mechanics, bio thermodynamics, bio- transport phenomena, biomaterials,</p> <p>biomechanics, bioinstrumentation, bioimaging, human</p> <p>physiology, cell biology, etc.</p> <ul> <li>The successful candidate must have a commitment to student advising </li></ul> <p>and recruitment, evidence of strong oral and written communication.</p> <p>Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty and staff in the </li></ul> <p>department and the university and students from diverse ethnic, cultural,</p> <p>and socioeconomic backgrounds.</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and </li></ul> <p>internally.</p> <ul> <li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Preferences:</p> <ul> <li>The candidates with strong focus on bio-thermal, bio-fluid and bio-transport </li></ul> <p>phenomena are of particular interest.</p> <ul> <li>Prior postdoctoral experience in biomedical research or work experience in </li></ul> <p>medical center is desirable.</p> <p>Licenses/ Certifications: N/A</p> <p>Additional Job Details</p> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interest, statement of teaching interest, and the names of three current professional references (current or past supervisor) including e-mail address, and telephone number (current supervisor will not be contacted without the candidate's prior consent).
