<p>The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) is a physician executive that works under the leadership and direction of the Chief of Staff (COS) at the Jesse Brown VAMC in Chicago, IL. The DCOS will support COS in managing complex healthcare delivery operations and serve as an active partner with all academic affiliates and community healthcare providers. As a full assistant to the COS, the DCOS is responsible for fulfilling the role of Acting COS in the COS's absence.</p> <p>The Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) reports directly to the Chief of Staff (COS) located primarily on our main campus in Chicago, Illinois and has a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical responsibilities encompassing the administration of medical care and treatment to Veterans in Chicago and the Northwest Indiana area. Veteran care is delivered through the main campus in Chicago, along with four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics: Adam Benjamin, Jr. VA Outpatient Clinic, Auburn Gresham, Chicago Heights, and Lakeside CBOCs, in addition to extensive telehealth and mental health/homeless locations near the main campus.</p> <p>VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards.</p> <p>Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases</p> <p>Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)</p> <p>Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA</p> <p>Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)</p> <p>Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory</p> <p>CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)</p> <p>Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided</p> <p>Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting</p> <p>The DCOS will support COS in managing complex healthcare delivery operations and serve as an active partner with all academic affiliates and community healthcare providers. The DCOS will chair and serve on various medical center and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) committees and workgroups, support clinical services and providers, and provide direct patient care in his/her area of specialty. The DCOS will also be responsible for performance measures, performance improvement, and the application of sound business principles in growing programs. The DCOS will at times serve as acting COS and in that capacity execute decisions independently and in conjunction with other members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and be required to participate in COS on-call coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays.</p> <p>In carrying out the administrative duties and responsibilities of the position:</p> <ul> <li>Acts as a full assistant to the COS in the efficient management of clinical and medical services to veterans served by the healthcare system at all of its campuses. </li><li>Creates and monitors quality improvement measures for process improvement in active collaboration with the Quality Management Office and Patient Care Services. Responsible for compliance with all safety, regulatory, and accrediting body requirements. </li><li>Takes a proactive role with the COS and Associate COSs in coordinating and integrating clinical and support programs to create a healthcare system that meets the highest contemporary standards of patient safety, quality, value, and Veteran experience. </li><li>Ensures medical staff compliance with regulations, medical staff bylaws, facility policies, The Joint Commission standards, performance metrics, and other appropriate regulations. </li><li>Assist with development and execution of the overall Health Care System operational and business plans. </li><li>Motivate and collaborate effectively with a diverse administrative and clinical staff. </li><li>Establishes and monitors productivity standards and organizational performance improvement priorities. </li><li>Organizes work, sets priorities, delegates tasks and responsibilities. </li><li>Translates management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled service operations. </li><li>Works independently, exercises clinical judgment in dealing with complex clinical decisions and daily problems, and coordinates with other disciplines concerning total patient care using professional knowledge and skill in applying a wide range of concepts, principles, and methodology. </li><li>Incumbent assures that all OWCP forms are accurately completed, in a timely manner, in accordance with the Human Resources Management Service (HMRS) guidelines </li></ul> <p>The role of the DCOS includes the provision of clinical care in area of specialization of the Provider. The incumbent will maintain an active clinical practice within the appropriate area as defined by the COS.</p> <p>Work Schedule: M-F, 8:00am-4:30 pm</p>
