<p>Holyoke Public Schools (HPS) serves 5,300 students in 11 schools and employs nearly 1000 people. This is an exciting time of change and transformation at HPS. Although there are many strengths within the District and many students graduate college and career ready, last year, HPS was placed in receivership by the State of Massachusetts, due to chronically struggling performance well below the state average. For more information about the HPS Turnaround Plan, please visit: http://www.hps.holyoke.ma.us/turnaroundplan.htm.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <ul> <li>Teach students to build, maintain and repair both computer and networking systems. </li><li>Teach students to administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Novell/Windows networks. </li><li>Teach students how to configuration and maintain a web server as well as design and maintain a website </li><li>Teach occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field. </li><li>Develop lesson plans and organized class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time. </li><li>Demonstrate occupational materials, equipment, instruments, and processes using stand or teacher-prepared models, mock ups, sketches, and other instructional aides. </li><li>Guide students in the selection and performance of appropriate activities. </li><li>Provide individual and group instruction appropriate t the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed. </li><li>Instruct students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of instruments and equipment. </li><li>Control storage, maintains standard of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity-type classroom. </li><li>Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. </li><li>Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress. </li><li>Evaluates each student's performance, knowledge, and skills in the course being taught, as well as prepare progress reports. </li><li>Other assigned duties. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Associate degree or higher degree related to the subject matter and skills to be taught</p> </li><li> <p>Needs to have, or be prepared to obtain, a Preliminary Vocational Technical Teacher License in Programming and Web Development (The Preliminary License requires passing score of at least 70% on a written test and performance test; and a passing score on the vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test (VTLST) or the Communication and Literacy Skills Test</p> </li><li> <p>Four years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to programming & web development</p> </li><li> <p>No teaching experience required</p> </li><li> <p>No experience required</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working in an urban setting, preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Skills in managing challenging student behaviors strongly preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution</p> </li><li> <p>Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills</p> </li><li> <p>Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply</p> </li></ul>
