<p>Description / Position Overview</p> <p>Equipment Operator I - Street Sweeper</p> <p>The Colorado Springs Public Works division is ready to welcome multiple Equipment Operator I's to their dynamic team! As an Equipment Operator you will perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks for the City's Public Works Department.</p> <p>This job announcement will remain open until all positions are filled.</p> <p>Available Teams & Key Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Street Sweeper Team - Operate Street sweeping equipment to keep roads clean, improve safety, and prevent pollutants from entering the stormwater system. Duties include routine sweeping and debris removal. </li><li>Signs & Markings Team - Construct, install, and maintain traffic signs and pavement markings. Fontanero St., Colorado Springs, CO 80907 </li><li>Street Sweeper: 688 Geiger Ct., Colorado Springs, CO 80915 </li></ul> <p>Anticipated Schedule: 6:30AM - 5:00PM. Click here to view the 2026 Salary Schedule | City of Colorado Springs</p> <p>As an Equipment Operator for the Street Sweepere team, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Install signs and markings, using various equipment and hand tools, in compliance with federal standards </li><li>Use Cartegraph to review work orders </li><li>Coordinate with supervisors, traffic technicians, and other departments to support signs and markings needs </li><li>Transport materials and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites </li><li>Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment </li><li>Apply chemicals, abrasives, and other ice control products </li><li>Snow and Ice Control Operations along with other emergency response as needed for different events (Snow, rain, hail, wind, fire, etc.) </li><li>Maintain log and record books </li><li>Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, and shoveling asphalt </li></ul> <p>As an Equipment Operator for the Street Sweeper team, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Operate equipment such as a sweeper, front end loader, Tandem axle dump truck, utility truck with trailer, hand and power tools </li><li>Operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations </li><li>Transport material and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites </li><li>Safely use, clean, service, and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment and tools </li><li>Perform manual labor such as raking/shoveling dirt and asphalt, removing debris, and shoveling snow </li><li>Safely operate hand and power tools and construction and maintenance equipment </li><li>Perform grounds maintenance and clean up </li><li>Assist other divisions within the Public Works departments as business needs permit </li></ul> <p>Learn more about the Equipment Operator I role by reviewing the class specification on the City of Colorado Springs Class Specifications page</p> <p>We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Pertinent federal, state, and local guidelines and standards </li><li>The basic operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment </li><li>Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction </li><li>Occupational hazards and standard safety practices </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods </li><li>Safely operate a variety of equipment and hand tools </li><li>Safely operate assigned vehicle </li><li>Communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED </li><li>One year of professional, full-time experience in concrete labor, general construction, manual labor or another relevant field </li><li>Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions </li><li>Possess, or obtain within one year of hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado CDL Class B driver's license which is not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges </li></ul> <p>TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR CDL (COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE) WITH THE FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse at https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov</p> <p>Substitutions: We value a diverse range of qualifications and experiences.
