The Professor of Legal Practice contributes to the design, implementation, and delivery of the three-semester LP program and works collaboratively with LP faculty to plan curriculum, share resources, and address instructional challenges. The Professor also maintains effective communication with colleagues and coordinates, as appropriate, with other departments within the School of Law.</p> <p>Teach Legal Practice courses as assigned by the Dean.</p> <p>Work in collaboration with LP Coordinator or Director and the full-time and part-time Legal Practice faculty to plan the content and scheduling of the LP Program, so as to assure the appropriate workloads for students and faculty, coverage of core legal writing concepts, research instruction, and adequate feedback and individualized instruction.</p> <p>Develop appropriate research and writing assignments and attendant teaching materials and to evaluate and revise curriculum in light of experience and goals.</p> <p>Grade and provide appropriate feedback for all assignments assigned in LP courses.</p> <p>Participate in developing and planning upper level writing courses, at the request of the Administration and in cooperation with other LP faculty.</p> <p>Serve as a resource to faculty regarding the LP program and promote the LP program among faculty.</p> <p>Work collaboratively with the Reference Librarians, the Director of Bar Support, the Writing Specialist and other members of the faculty and staff assisting LP students.</p> <p>Additional Functions</p> <p>Attend and participate in events at the School of Law, as required.</p> <p>Attend local and national conferences focusing on legal practice education.</p> <p>Participate as a member of School of Law and University committees as directed.</p> <p>Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and use discretion when supporting students, their families, and working with sensitive student information.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>J.D. or LL.B degree from an ABA accredited law school.</p> <p>Strong academic record.</p> <p>Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.</p> <p>Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines.</p> <p>Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals in a service environment.</p> <p>Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.</p> <p>Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Prior legal writing teaching and familiarity with the administration of legal writing programs is preferred.</p> <p>Knowledge of and commitment to the education and educational needs of students across the school.</p> <p>At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Roger Williams University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and committed to a diverse workforce.
