<p>JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:</p> <ul> <li>Be responsible for teaching students of limited English speaking ability. </li><li>Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, school policy and administrative regulations. </li><li>Teach pupils utilizing a course of study adopted by the Westfield Public Schools and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content. </li><li>Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. </li><li>Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. </li><li>Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to as to best utilize the available time for instruction. </li><li>Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. </li><li>Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. </li><li>Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils' progress and interpret the school program. </li><li>Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. </li><li>Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. </li><li>Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. </li><li>Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. </li><li>Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. </li><li>Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. </li><li>Participate in curriculum development programs as required. </li><li>Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities. </li><li>Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Building Principal. Salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted. Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation. This position subject to funding</p>
