<p>Description and Functions</p> <p>OpenUntilFilled</p> <p>GENERAL DESCRIPTION:</p> <p>This position provides the frontline presence of mining regulatory enforcement, regulation and mining permit administration for the state and the regulated mining community in southeast Wyoming. This position is a member of the Land Quality Division, District 1 mining regulation team, subordinate to the Land Quality Division (LQD), District 1 (D1) Supervisor. The position will support the overall team by administering mining permits and providing geological knowledge support important to analyzing proposals and inspecting the operations of contemporary mining and exploration projects.</p> <p>A successful candidate may be eligible for a hiring bonus.</p> <p>Working for the State of Wyoming offers more than a paycheck. Specifically, analysis of mine project information related to mining volumes and volumetrics for surface or underground mine operations. </li><li>Responsible for analysis of groundwater characteristics and hydrogeochemistry of these projects and proposals. </li><li>Conducts analysis of mined land reclamation proposals. </li><li>Conducts administration of assigned mine permits and authorizations including evaluation of compliance with a broad spectrum of regulations. </li><li>Analyzes impacts of mining activities on public health, safety and the environment. </li><li>Documents findings with detailed technical reports. </li><li>Provides program information and interpretation to the public, regulated community and government agencies. </li><li>Conducts inspections of mining operations to determine compliance. </li><li>Writes detailed inspection reports, notices of violation, compliance orders, and responds to public complaints. </li><li>Participates in development of guidance documents and regulations focusing on a variety of topics. </li><li>Requires considerable initiative and independent analytical and evaluative judgment, travel and field work. </li><li>Accountable for the completion of projects within defined time constraints. </li><li>Expected to produce detailed, well written technical reports, inspection reports and division correspondence. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>PREFERENCES:</p> <p>Preference will be given to a candidate that has a Bachelor's Degree in Biological or Physical Science. Additional preference will be given to the candidate with direct experience in mineral exploration through drilling and the mining of all types of minerals, with an emphasis on non-coal minerals such as uranium, lithium, trona and gold.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE:</p> <ul> <li>Basic knowledge of mineral exploration and surface mining projects. </li><li>Basic knowledge of natural resources sciences in order to analyze exploration and surface mining projects. This includes the application of solid and planer geometry, application of trigonometry, practical knowledge of basic word processing, GIS/GPS programs and the use of field capable tablets. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree (in Geology/Geotechnical Engineering)</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>1-2 years of progressive work experience in Geology with acquired knowledge at the level of a Geologist II</p> <p>Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:</p> <p>Professional Geologist License (PG) or Professional Engineering License (PE) at time of hire. (Wyoming PG or PE required within one year of hire date.)</p> <p>Necessary Special Requirements</p> <p>PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Inspection of mineral exploration sites and surface mining sites involves over the road travel and requires the ability to drive a motor vehicle over paved highways and improved gravel roads. Also, the ability to negotiate uneven terrain on foot in order to traverse mine and exploration sites safely is essential. </li><li>Most inspections are conducted during the growing season (April through July) however, some may need to be conducted during shoulder seasons when inclement conditions may be encountered. </li></ul> <p>NOTES:</p> <ul> <li>FLSA: Exempt </li><li>The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality may use a video interview as a mandatory first step of our process.
