<p>Basic Function</p> <p>Under moderate supervision, performs complex and specialized troubleshooting and preventive and corrective maintenance of rail transit vehicles.</p> <p>Recruitment Timelines: Testing is projected to be scheduled for the week of August 25, 2025. We encourage you to monitor your governmentjobs.com profile and emails for the latest updates.</p> <ul> <li>Performs journey-level diagnosis of rail vehicle malfunctions, determines the probable cause, and makes the necessary repairs to the rail car systems and subsystems, including propulsion, traction motors, brakes, air compressors, couplers, doors, HVAC, auxiliary power, communications equipment, and all other related electromechanical components </li><li>Moves cars with emergency equipment in shops, yards, and on the main lines </li><li>Conducts operational inspections and repairs, removes, and replaces dysfunctional components of the vehicles </li><li>Performs acceptance testing and pre-service preparations on newly acquired and overhauled light and heavy rail vehicles </li><li>Responds to system emergencies and equipment failure, and renders remedial action to return the rail vehicle to the maintenance shop and yards </li><li>Overhauls and maintains traction power motors </li><li>Utilizes test equipment, schematics, and drawings to support vehicle maintenance and repairs </li><li>Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out </li><li>Associate's degree - Electronics Technology and 2 years' journey-level electromechanical experience; ORCertificate of completion in Electronics from an accredited trade or vocation school and 2 years' journey-level electromechanical experience; OR4 years' journey-level experience as an electromechanical/electronic technician performing repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of rail rapid transit vehicles utilizing digital electronics and microprocessors OR </li><li>4 years' experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic </li><li>Valid California Class C driver's license </li></ul> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li>Methods, materials, equipment and safety procedures utilized in the maintenance and repair of AC/DC motors, motor controls, relay logic, semiconductor devices, transducers, digital electronics, microprocessors, and related electromechanical and electronic rail vehicle systems </li><li>Vehicle operations and safety </li><li>Hydraulic and pneumatic theory and HVAC </li><li>Shop math </li></ul> <p>Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of rail vehicles </li><li>Read electrical schematics </li><li>Safely operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment </li><li>Safely operate rail vehicles, emergency trucks, and other Metro vehicles </li><li>Follow oral and written instructions </li><li>Lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds </li><li>Use volt/ohm meter and oscilloscope </li><li>Read, write, speak, and understand English </li></ul> <p>Special Conditions</p> <ul> <li>May be required to obtain a Class A driver's license </li><li>Must be able to work on any one of the shifts, including weekends </li><li>Must be able to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days per week </li><li>Must have normal color vision </li><li>Must provide own tools of the trade </li><li>Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required </li><li>Must be able to work from elevated structures, at heights, and in tunnels </li><li>Must successfully complete Rail Vehicle Systems initial training class </li><li>Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations </li></ul> <p>AS</p>
