We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community.</p> <p>Position Title Associate Dean, Student Success and Belonging Position Number 896349 Position Category Administration School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description</p> <p>Reporting to the Dean of HCLAS and working closely with the Vice Dean for Strategic Initiatives, the Associate Dean for Student Success and Belonging will play an important role in promoting student success, retention, and graduation, as well as fostering a sense of student engagement and belonging within the College. Often serving as a primary point of contact and advocate for students facing academic or personal challenges, the Associate Dean will coordinate with various University offices to ensure students' needs are addressed comprehensively. This includes providing consultation to faculty, chairs, and students on academic affairs policies and procedures, handling appeals for exceptions to policies, addressing student concerns, and facilitating students' progress toward graduation. Collaborating with faculty, staff, and student organizations, this position will support the development of comprehensive strategies to create and maintain a welcoming and inclusive campus environment that fosters the holistic academic, personal, and social development of HCLAS students.</p> <p>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Partners with the Vice Dean for Strategic Initiatives to develop and implement comprehensive strategies that support student success and foster a sense of belonging within the College. </li><li>Supports the development and implementation of programs and services aimed at enhancing student retention, persistence, and graduation rates in HCLAS. </li><li>Collaborates with faculty, staff, and student organizations to create and maintain a welcoming and inclusive campus environment that supports the academic, personal, and social development of HCLAS students. </li><li>Liaises with academic advising, counseling, tutoring, and other student support services to ensure alignment with University-wide student success goals in HCLAS. </li><li>Develops and implements initiatives to address the needs of diverse student populations. </li><li>Partners and collaborates with the Dean of Students, Director of First-Generation Student Support and Engagement and the VP for Equity and Inclusion. </li><li>Collaborates with faculty and administrators to develop and implement strategies to enhance student learning and academic achievement. </li><li>Coordinates efforts to promote student engagement, involvement, and leadership development through co-curricular activities, clubs, and organizations. </li><li>Represents HCLAS in meetings, conferences, and other events related to student success and engagement initiatives. </li><li>Coordinates faculty, students, and Dean's Office representation for student recruitment events both in person and virtual, to support events organized by the Admissions Office (including Open Houses, College for a Day, and Admitted Students events). </li><li>During the summer months, works with New Student Orientation offices on presentations, and coordinates HCLAS Welcome Week events. </li><li>Collaborates with other offices within Academic Affairs and the Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success division to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting student success and belonging and to identify needed policy changes. </li><li>Coordinates awarding of named scholarships with the office of Financial Aid. </li><li>Addresses student academic concerns, including but not limited to grade appeals and requests for exceptions to academic policies. </li><li>Oversees the implementation and management of First-Year Experience initiatives and programming. </li><li>Collaborates with faculty in HCLAS and from other academic units to develop FYC curricular offerings, including first-year seminars and clusters. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in any Arts and Sciences discipline (or other terminal degree appropriate to an Arts and Sciences field) required. </li><li>8+ years of full-time faculty experience. </li><li>3+ years prior faculty leadership/administrative experience. </li><li>Absolute discretion in handling confidential information. </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across functional units. </li><li>This position requires occasional attendance at weekend or evening admission and other events. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Specific experience related to projects that support student success and belonging preferred. </li></ul> <p>Special Instructions Deadline Open Until Filled Date Posted 07/08/2025 EEO Statement</p> <p>Hofstra University is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to extending equal opportunity in employment to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national or ethnic origin, physical or mental disability, marital or veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.</p> <p>Salary/Salary Range $135,000 - $150,000</p> <p>Additional Information</p> <p>Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.</p> <ul> <li>Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA. </li></ul>
