If you are a Certified Officer with more than 5 years of experience, your pay will be set at the rate for your current years of experience less one year.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY</p> <p>Under general direction of a superior officer, performs police duties in enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; performs related work as required.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</p> <ul> <li>Patrols the city on foot and by vehicle on regularly assigned shift enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. </li><li>Responds to calls received during shift, takes proper action, and prepares accurate reports. </li><li>Issue court citations for traffic violations; appears in court when necessary. </li><li>Makes arrests. </li><li>Serves legal documents for the courts. </li><li>Controls traffic at fires, accidents, parades, etc. </li><li>May operate breathalyzer and radar equipment. </li><li>Secures the scene of crimes and accidents, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, interviews witnesses, and prepares accurate reports. </li><li>May be assigned to perform criminal investigative or other specialized duties. </li><li>Provides security for business and homes as requested. </li><li>Assists in emergency situations; may administer first-aid. </li><li>May issue parking violations. </li><li>Participates in approved law enforcement training courses. </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates the ability to maintain composure and self-control. </li><li>Demonstrates the ability to react quickly and calmly with good judgement in emergency situations. </li><li>Assesses situations accurately and determines appropriate action. </li><li>Manages difficult and emotional situations effectively. </li><li>Complies with departmental performance standards. </li><li>Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver's license. </li><li>Candidate must be 20.5 years of age to be considered for the position. </li><li>Graduation from high school or equivalent. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS</p> <p>Work requires ability to stand, sit or move about frequently.
