<p>The Parks Department is hiring a seasonal Bus Driver for the Summer Special Needs Summer Camp.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>This position is responsible for supervising the safe transporting of children to and from events/ program, etc. and making sure the bus is inspected and in proper working condition, follows all safety regulations, reports and complies with accident / evacuation procedures, and ensures bus has been inspected within timely guidelines.</p> <p>The bus driver will transport students to and from camp site and other activities during camp day and return them safely in the afternoon., should be able follow a daily schedule while transporting people on regular routes along city or suburban streets.</p> <p>If using a Sumner County bus -the bus driver MUST already be a current employee for them, maintain trip reports, and turn in on time.</p> <p>MAJOR DUTIES</p> <ul> <li>Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from the program and on field trips </li><li>Arranges for the annual inspection of the bus(es) before program begins to transport children; assures, with prior approval, purchases and or repairs are made pursuant to state inspection </li><li>Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the us daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the Director, or delegated staff person, before transporting children. </li><li>Ensures that the communication device (e.g. 2-way radio, cellular phone is in proper working condition before each trip </li><li>Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus ( eg. Oil change) transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities. </li><li>Ensures the bus always has sufficient fuel. </li><li>Develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes that ensure no child will be on the bus more than one hour. </li><li>Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; and reports any traffic violations to the Director immediately </li><li>Ensures that all children are in age-appropriate safety restraints if provided on the bus during transportation </li><li>Maintains and ensures that there is compliance on numbers allowed on bus </li><li>Follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures </li><li>Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone in bus without supervision at any time </li><li>Keeps the bus clean and free of debris, follow bus cleaning procedures </li><li>Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, reports need to the Director, or delegated staff person </li><li>Prepares aides and children for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held at least 1 X per program and documented in writing </li><li>IN case of emergencies/ accidents, evacuation of children is followed according to written and practiced procedures </li><li>In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency procedures are followed, completes a written accident report as required </li><li>Ability to work under minimal supervision- being self-motivated, accountable, and responsible </li><li>Incorporates safe work practices in job performance </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the general rules of the road and transporting of campers </li><li>Ability to sit and/or stand, be active, and endure a variety of temperature conditions for prolonged periods of time. </li><li>Knowledge of city and department procedures and policies, relevant local, state and federal laws relative to driving a bus </li><li>Skill in oral and written communication; skill in planning, organizing, analyzing, decision making, and problem solving. </li></ul> <p>SCOPE AND EFFECT</p> <p>The purpose of this position is to provide overall supervision of transportation for the special needs program ensuring safety before, during, and after any transporting of campers.</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.</p> <p>Must be able to assist and/or maintain camper during meltdowns.</p> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The work is typically performed at school or outdoors at park facilities. The employee may be exposed to inclement weather.</p> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor</p> <p>SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY</p> <p>Directly supervises ALL people riding the bus. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the parks departments policies and guidelines.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Most employers prefer drivers to have a high school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>Must have a CDL license </li><li>All bus drivers must have a passenger (P) endorsement, and school bus drivers must also have a school bus (S) endorsement. Getting the P and S endorsements requires additional knowledge and driving tests administered by a certified examiner. </li><li>Many states require all bus drivers to be 18 years of age or older and those who drive across state lines to be at least 21 years old. </li><li>Bus drivers can have their CDL suspended if they are convicted of a felony involving the use of a motor vehicle or of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs </li><li>Most bus drivers are required to undergo background checks before they are hire </li><li>General knowledge in varying disabilities </li><li>Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. </li><li>High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required. </li><li>CPR/First Aid Certification preferred. </li><li>Prior experience working with children helpful </li><li>Available to work weekdays (regular and reliable attendance). </li><li>Skill in oral and written communication; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. </li></ul> <p>FLSA Status: Seasonal Pay Grade: 4</p>
