<p>Job Responsibilities</p> <p>In conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance activities, performs general highway maintenance worker functions and operates small equipment such as Concrete mixer, Single-Axle Dump Truck, Hydroseeder, Litter Picker, Roller (<= 4 Tons), Snow Plow, Spreader, Sweeper, Self-Contained, Broom Tractor, Tractor with Mower (< 10' wide), and Flatbed Truck. Performs manual labor in a variety of activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of state highway roads and bridges. Operates and maintains power tools and hand tools. With various levels of formal and informal training, and in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance activities, operates equipment such as: Backhoe, Motor Grader, Slope Mower, Multi Purpose Unit Tractor with Broom Mower, Pipe Washer/Vacuum Truck, Tractor with Boom Limb Cutter, Tandem/Tri-axle Dump Truck, and Front End Loader. Assists with placement of traffic control devices to properly set up maintenance work zones. Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones. Removes litter, debris, and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. Conducts daily preventative maintenance activities on all assigned small equipment to ensure that equipment is greased and lubricated, proper coolant and oil (engine and hydraulic) levels are maintained, hoses and belts are inspected for deterioration, tires are properly inflated, and no leakages are present. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended hours or 12-hour shifts. Operates both anti-icing and removal equipment during snow and ice response on highways and bridges. Performs other related duties as assigned.<br> </p> <p>Minimum and Additional Requirements</p> <p>There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this classification. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.</p> <p>The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
