Position:</p> <ul> <li>Craftsman </li></ul> <p>Summary:</p> <ul> <li>Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of school buildings, property/grounds, open spaces and other facilities. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Performs miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks on school buildings and property requiring a variety of journeyman skills in at least two of the following areas: carpentry, painting, plumbing, plastering, welding, sheet metal work and other skilled trades. </li><li>Must have knowledge with door locking mechanisms, roof repairs, gypsum board repairs, locker repairs, replaces broken windows, repairs doors, furniture, cabinets, shelves, stairs, sinks and closets; installs window blinds </li><li>Performs repairs on low voltage electrical equipment not requiring a licensed electrician such as replacing cords, fuses, control circuits, faulty switches and light fixtures. </li><li>May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security. </li><li>Maintains and repairs motors, fans, and furnaces. </li><li>Replaces pipe and performs other plumbing maintenance or replacement duties. Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings, repairs plaster and drywall, paints building structures. </li><li>Incidentally may supervise a small crew of workers at a lower skill level such as laborers, helpers, and maintenance men. </li><li>Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures. </li><li>May install computer cables and responds to emergency maintenance requests, as required. </li><li>May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed. </li><li>Performs other manual duties such as receiving and storing supplies. </li><li>May spend a small portion of his time working on the grounds cutting grass, trimming shrubs, and doing other grounds maintenance duties. </li><li>Mows and maintains open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows and removes weeds; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets. </li><li>Maintains sprinkler systems; and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. </li><li>Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment; plants and maintains lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers; carries out the seeding, top dressing, soil conditioning and watering. </li><li>Removes snow and operates snow removal equipment, such as snow blowers and plows. </li><li>Picks up litter and disposes of solid waste from around buildings and grounds. </li><li>Opens/closes, locks/unlocks facilities as needed; assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for program use. </li><li>Assists in the hanging of decorative banners or signs as needed; may be required to assist in the construction of new facilities; keeps records of work completed. </li><li>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: </li><li>Pickup trucks, small dump trucks; motorized sweeping or vacuum equipment, snow blowers/snow throwers, lawn and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting and cement finishing work. </li><li>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. </li><li>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. </li><li>Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions </li><li>While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. </li><li>The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. </li><li>The employee is occasionally required to sit; use ladders; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear; the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds; while performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. </li><li>The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. </li><li>The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock; the noise level in the work environment is usually loud. </li><li>The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. </li><li>The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. </li><li></li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Any combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance. </li><li>Considerable knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs. </li><li>Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to schedule. </li><li>Ability to communicate orally and in writing. </li><li>Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. </li><li>Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to utilize the email system, a computer to print and update work order systems. </li><li>Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public. </li><li>Valid Massachusetts driver license required.
