No</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Internship duties are based on department requirements and school course of study. </li><li>Detailed description to be provided by host department. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>High School Diploma or Equivalent required</p> <p>Experience:</p> <p>No experience required</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Excellent oral and written communication. </li><li>Ability to work well independently. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to interact with a variety of people. </li><li>Strong team player and can communicate well within an interdisciplinary team. </li><li>High level of organizational skills with strong attention to detail. </li><li>Ability to follow directions and protocol requirements. </li><li>Must be reliable and punctual. </li><li>Good time management skills. </li><li>Strong oral communication skills. </li><li>Ability to take and follow direction. </li><li>Willingness to learn. </li></ul> <p>Working Environment:</p> <ul> <li>Normal laboratory environment. </li><li>May be exposed, under controlled conditions, to hazardous materials. </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Details (if applicable)</p> <p>A student research training opportunity is available in the investigation of gut-brain interactions in neurologic diseases, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Working under general supervision from Laura Cox and other lab members, the student will execute protocols involving a variety of routine and non-routine experiments at a professional level, and troubleshoot and implement modifications on existing techniques, as appropriate. The student may suggest alternate technical routes and suggest options based upon research in the literature. Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using proper techniques. This is a great opportunity for a student who is looking for research experience.</p> <p>Principal Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain (breed) and genotype (PCR) transgenic mice, to euthanize/perfuse mice, extract organs (i.e. brain, plasma, intestines) and conduct protein extractions and histological sections. </li><li>Administer microbiota interventions, including live bacteria, whole microbiota, or antibiotics to animal models of neurologic diseases. </li><li>Assist or perform mouse behavioral studies (motor/cognition). Assist or perform studies related to histopathology or ELISA. </li><li>Order reagents and supplies and prepare preparations of needed reagents for all procedures. </li><li>Perform DNA extractions and microbiome library preparation.
