In return, there are numerous perks and benefits including:</p> <ul> <li>Competitive compensation </li><li>Comprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision benefits </li><li>Generous Paid Time Off inclusive of holidays and flexible floating holidays </li><li>401k retirement plan with company matching </li></ul> <p>THE POSITION: Accounting & Compliance Manager</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing tax compliance and business licensing, as well as assisting with the various insurance programs and general accounting for these respective areas. The role blends tax/regulatory compliance, general accounting and requires cross-functional collaboration, time management, attention to detail, and initiative.</p> <p>This individual will serve as the primary liaison with our third-party advisors, and state and local agencies to ensure timely and accurate filings and reporting. The ideal candidate is experienced in both public and private accounting, with a hands-on approach and the ability to lead and continuously improve compliance processes across a growing, fast-paced organization. The candidate will also demonstrate a positive attitude that matches the entrepreneurial spirit of the company.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Tax Compliance</p> <ul> <li>Support external tax advisors and the individual/private equity sponsors with income tax compliance and reporting, including the preparation and review of data needed for K-1s and tax distributions. </li><li>Manage indirect tax compliance, including sales/use tax, personal and real property tax, and other local or industry-specific taxes. </li><li>Reconcile tax accounts monthly and record tax accruals; monitor actuals vs. budget and ensure accurate coding of tax-related expenses. </li><li>Maintain tax calendars, track tax notices, and ensure timely filing and resolution in coordination with external providers </li><li>Serve as the main point of contact during state and local tax audits or information requests. </li><li>Monitor legislative changes and work with external advisors to update tax systems and processes accordingly. </li></ul> <p>Business Licensing</p> <ul> <li>Serve as the primary liaison between the company and third-party licensing providers to manage business and operational licenses across multiple jurisdictions. </li><li>Partner with Facilities, Installations, and Legal to gather and validate data required for license applications and renewals. </li><li>Monitor compliance requirements across federal, state, and local jurisdictions; perform regulatory research and maintain a central repository of filing requirements and documentation. </li><li>Maintain and manage a proactive filing calendar to ensure timely submission of all licenses and renewals. </li><li>Prepare and post necessary journal entries for accruals; provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis related to licensing costs. </li></ul> <p>Insurance</p> <ul> <li>Support the coordination and accounting of the company's insurance programs-including workers' compensation, auto liability, and employee health benefits-while assisting with policy renewals and collaborating with brokers to help mitigate insurable risk. </li><li>Coordinate and respond to policy premium audits, actuarial valuations, and related information requests from brokers, insurers, or internal stakeholders. </li><li>Ensure insurance-related transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with GAAP; prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile balance sheet and P&L accounts. </li><li>Familiarity with records of coverage, policy documents, claims reserves, and loss run reports. </li></ul> <p>Forecasting and Continuous Improvement</p> <ul> <li>Continuously assess and improve internal controls, processes, and compliance procedures related to tax, insurance, and licensing functions. </li><li>Coordinate with the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team to prepare and analyze budgets, forecasts, and actual-to-budget comparisons for tax, insurance, and licensing. </li><li>Lead or participate in ad hoc projects related to accounting, compliance, or business process improvements. </li></ul> <p>THE SHADE STORE offer is contingent upon:</p> <ul> <li>Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States for The Shade Store, which will be confirmed by E-Verify within three business days of your hire date. </li></ul> <p>The base salary range for this role is $130k-$150k, commensurate with experience.</p> <p>The Shade Store provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.</p>
