Together, we will achieve our mission to enhance the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve.</p> <p>Underwriter II Responsibilities:</p> <p>Prepares and reviews various ratings, analyzes cases, and employs various underwriting risk assessment techniques depending on the appropriate approach for the specific customer. Using supporting documentation for analysis and making recommendations internally to underwriting management and/or sales based on established authority level. Assists more junior underwriters in meeting department needs and developing skills. Attends customer and broker dialogues to develop consultative skills. Possesses solid working knowledge of Health Care Reform, risk assessment, marketplace conditions, competitive landscape, and relevant business acumen. May underwrite medical, pharmacy, and/or ancillary lines of business. Works closely with the sales Team to advise on compliance with underwriting requirements and customer risk characteristics.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of insurance concepts, underwriting, rating techniques, and basic risk evaluation is required. The ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight timeframes. Strong analytical and mathematical skills, as well as the ability to recognize, research, and resolve discrepancies, are required. Exhibits a prescribed level of proficiency across all competencies as defined in the Underwriting Competency Model. In addition, each role within Underwriting has five specific competencies that are weighted heavily in the evaluation of performance. Must be detail-oriented, skilled in problem-solving, mathematics, and algebraic concepts. Knowledge of insurance concepts and advanced understanding of rating techniques. Must have solid interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.</p> <p>Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products (Access, Word, and Excel) and internal underwriting support systems.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <p>Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a group insurance environment and 2+ years' experience working in an underwriting environment. Can be concurrent experience.</p> <p>Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. MBA Preferred.</p> <p>Hybrid:</p> <p>Independence has implemented a "Hybrid" model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the "Hybrid" model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania</p> <p>IBX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
