The position is designed to help provide intervention through Colorado Digital Learning Solutions (CDLS) education platform, Edgenuity, WorkKeys, or other identified platforms to either help middle school students return to traditional classroom environment or high school students earn a diploma through the Platte Valley High School Alternative Program. This position will not operate on a traditional teaching schedule in that there will be no planning period. The successful candidate will be available to serve in a Dean of Students capacity during the day when not directly working with students.</p> <p>Essential Functions and Characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>Work with and engage a wide variety of students to help find success in education through alternative means. The end goal is for the intervention to help students be able to return to the traditional classroom or graduate from high school. </li><li>Approach every discipline situation with a restorative mindset, seeking to understand the root cause of behavior, repair harm, and demonstrating an ability to maintain high standards, expectations, and accountability. </li><li>Work to plan, prepare, implement and assess instructional lessons that teach standards, are appropriate for individual needs, and lead students towards graduation. </li><li>Counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education. </li><li>Coordinate, monitor and evaluate the alternative high school enrollment process including articulation with appropriate school personnel and special education staff if applicable. </li><li>Serve as a resource to building administration for student discipline, handling office referrals, investigating incidents, and determining appropriate consequences in alignment with district policy, the student code of conduct, and applicable law. </li><li>Participate in threat assessments and threat assessment screeners as available. </li><li>Communicate on a regular basis with all families through in-person meetings, email, and phone to aid in building a partnership between the school, teacher, student, and parents. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties:</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position. </li><li>Ability to manage case load, and time constraints. </li><li>Ability to relate well with all children, parents and other school/district staff and community members. </li><li>Possess strong communication skills with students, parents and staff members able to generate positive relations and morale. </li><li>Highly motivated and results oriented. </li><li>Ability to use district technology. </li><li>Strong desire to work with students and families to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for students. </li><li>Growth mindset that works to stay abreast of high-quality research-based practices. </li><li>Prefers a work environment where flexibility, ability to deal with conflict, a high tolerance for stress, an ability to quickly internalize information and make informed decisions. </li></ul> <p>Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
