<p>Position: 0.8 Physical Education Teacher, 0.2 Elementary Teacher (Grade 1)</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time</p> <p>Department: Physical Education/Primary</p> <p>Location: Cunniff Elementary School</p> <p>Reports to: Principal/PE Coordinator</p> <p>Affiliation: WEA Unit A</p> <p>Salary range: As determined by the WEA Unit A contract</p> <p>General Description:</p> <p>The Physical Education Teacher position (0.8 FTE) is primarily responsible for teaching physical education as it relates to the district curriculum and the Massachusetts State Frameworks. The Physical Education Teacher creates a flexible grade-appropriate physical education and wellness program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishes effective rapport with students, and motivates students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for lifelong wellness, in accordance with each student's ability.</p> <p>This role supports our Grade 1 Elementary instruction. The Grade 1 Elementary Classroom Teacher position (0.2 FTE) is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a Grade 1 elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential in conjunction with the co-teacher.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Plan and implement effective standards-based units and lesson plans </li><li>Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by WPS </li><li>Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement </li><li>Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students </li><li>Assess the learning of students in a way that ensures student growth </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues and the building/district administration to ensure quality instruction/programming for all students </li><li>Communicate effectively with parents/families and community members; Communicates with school counselors on student progress </li><li>Administers testing in accordance with testing practices </li><li>Establish a classroom structure that values relationships between child to child, child to curriculum, teacher to child, teacher to families and communities, and classrooms to schools through the intentional implementation of an appropriate curriculum </li><li>Teach content and skills across elementary subjects (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies) using standards-based curriculum guidelines from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. </li><li>Utilize district curriculum materials to design lessons and activities to guide, support, and challenge all students, including those with disabilities and English language Learners. </li><li>Assist with Adapted Physical Education as needed. </li></ul> <p>Core Competencies: Using the Massachusetts Model System for Educators Rubric, priority skills and abilities that all Watertown Public School teachers should possess:</p> <p>Curriculum, Planning, and Assessment</p> <p>(Subject Matter Knowledge, Well-Structured Lessons, Curriculum and Planning Indicator, Child and Adolescent Development)</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrates mastery of and enthusiasm for the content area and the pedagogy it requires </li><li>Can convey a grasp of child development and how students learn </li><li>Designs effective and rigorous standards based units of instruction consisting of well-structured lessons with measurable outcomes. </li></ul> <p>Teaching All Students</p> <p>(Meeting Diverse Needs, Student Engagement, Safe Learning Environment)</p> <ul> <li>Uses instructional practices that are likely to challenge, motivate, and engage all students and facilitate equitable, active student participation </li><li>Builds a productive learning environment where every student participates and is valued as part of the class community </li><li>Cultural Proficiency </li><li>Actively creates and maintains an environment in which students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected </li></ul> <p>Family and Community Engagement</p> <p>(Parent/Family Engagement)</p> <ul> <li>Engages with families and builds collaborative, respectful relationships with them in service of student learning </li><li>Professional Reflection & Collaboration </li></ul> <p>Professional Culture</p> <p>(Reflective Practice, Professional Collaboration)</p> <ul> <li>Regularly reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, and demonstrates self-awareness and commitment to continuous learning and development </li><li>Seeks to participate in and contribute to a collaborative adult learning community. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications Required:</p> <ul> <li>Hold a current MA DESE licensure in Physical Education </li><li>Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, both within the United States and/or internationally </li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults </li><li>Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Massachusetts Model System for Educators as outlined above. </li><li>At least two years of lead teaching experience </li></ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of second language, Spanish or Portuguese preferred </li><li>Experience in a school setting </li><li>Experience as a Physical Education Teacher </li><li>Masters' Degree Preferred </li><li>Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and the SEI endorsement </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <p>Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height;
