<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Page 1 of 2</p> <p>North Haven Public Schools</p> <p>Special Education Teacher - North Haven High School 25/26 (32)</p> <p>JOB POSTING</p> <p>Job Details</p> <p>Posting ID 32</p> <p>Title Special Education Teacher - North Haven High School 25/26</p> <p>Description Title: Full-Time High School Special Education Teacher, North Haven High School</p> <p>Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Student Services</p> <p>Supervises: N/A</p> <p>Work Year: 2025-2026 School Year</p> <p>Salary: Per Union Contract</p> <p>Position Description</p> <p>North Haven High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education</p> <p>Teacher to provide high-quality, specially designed instruction to students with</p> <p>disabilities in both resource and co-taught classroom settings. The ideal candidate will play a key</p> <p>role in preparing students for life after high school by delivering individualized instruction</p> <p>focused on transition skills, independent living, employability, and academic success within the</p> <p>general education curriculum.</p> <p>Education, Qualifications and Expectations</p> <p>Degree in Special Education and State of Connecticut Special Education certification</p> <p>(165);</p> <p>Working knowledge of the co-teaching and consultative models;</p> <p>Collaboration with classroom teachers in a co-teaching and/or consultative role</p> <p>including lesson development, delivery of differentiated instruction, and analysis</p> <p>of student performance data;</p> <p>Deliver specially designed instruction aligned to each student's</p> <p>Individualized Education Program (IEP), incorporating goals focused on academics,</p> <p>transition, and life skills;</p> <p>Implement transition assessments and activities to support students in developing skills</p> <p>for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living;</p> <p>Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns</p> <p>with administration, team members, and parents;</p> <p>Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each</p> <p>paraeducator that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build</p> <p>students' independence;</p> <p>Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and</p> <p>related compliance;</p> <p>Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special</p> <p>education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including</p> <p>the use of state guidelines;</p> <p>Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special</p> <p>education department in the above areas;</p> <p>Engage students through positive behavior strategies, differentiated instruction, and</p> <p>inclusive practices to promote their success and independence.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by</p> <p>an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.</p> <p>Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform</p> <p>the essential functions.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk,</p> <p>sit, talk or hear.
