<p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Immigration Specialist supports faculty and staff with U.S. visa and permanent residency matters, acting as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and managing immigration processes and compliance. The role oversees immigration databases and systems, ensures regulatory adherence, coordinates with external counsel, and supports visa sponsorship across H, J, O, and TN categories. This position serves as a resource on immigration policy and maintains related reporting, billing, and internal documentation.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Advise faculty and staff on visa and permanent residency processes; serve as liaison with external immigration counsel. </li><li>Prepare and file I-129 petitions for H-1B status; support J, O, and TN visa processes. </li><li>Act as ARO: issue DS-2019s, manage SEVIS records, process changes (extensions, transfers, funding, etc.), and ensure timely reporting. </li><li>Maintain immigration databases (ISSM, SharePoint); monitor status for 900+ visa holders and provide expiration alerts and guidance. </li><li>Maintain OIS website and intranet; ensure access to current forms, policies, and procedures. </li><li>Reverify I-9s and update hospital HR systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) with visa changes. </li><li>Ensure all required DOL postings for H-1B and PERM applications are completed on time. </li><li>Track internal visa billing, cost recovery, and fee processing; maintain office records. </li><li>Prepare detailed immigration reports for hospital departments and leadership. </li><li>Remain current on immigration regulations and communicate policy updates across departments. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Business, International Relations, or related field required. </li><li>At least one year of experience in immigration law, USCIS processes, or visa/residency support. </li><li>Experience in an academic medical center or with faculty, researchers, or healthcare professionals is preferred. </li><li>Solid understanding of U.S. immigration classifications (H, J, O, TN), J-1 waivers, and green card processes. </li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with SEVIS, ISSM, or related systems a plus. </li><li>Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines. </li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with international staff and institutional partners. </li><li>Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. </li></ul> <p>Boston Children's Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits including flexible schedules, affordable health, vision and dental insurance, childcare and student loan subsidies, generous levels of time off, 403(b) Retirement Savings plan, Pension, Tuition and certain License and Certification Reimbursement, cell phone plan discounts and discounted rates on T-passes.
