What's yours?</p> <p>Position Overview</p> <p>Applies engineering creativity and analytical skills to support sustaining activities, improve production, and introduce new products. Identifies root causes of issues and implements design changes. Drives designs from prototype to implementation while collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, process engineering, and project management.</p> <p>What you'll do</p> <ul> <li>Design, analyze, and test mechanical components and assemblies for new products, product improvements, and solutions to quality issues. Use NX 3D CAD software to refine designs and release drawings. Define design requirements, test criteria, and methods to assess feasibility, durability, and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with product management, purchasing, and engineering teams to implement design solutions. </li><li>Lead root cause analysis and communicate findings and solutions. Coordinate prototype builds and training with the fabrication team to ensure manufacturability. Perform audits, tests, and data analysis to validate design changes. </li><li>Primary expertise in mechanical components and assemblies that utilize plastic injection molding and aluminum/plastic extrusions. Secondary skills include die casting, stamping, machining, rapid prototyping (e.g., 3D printing). Testing to refine designs for function, aesthetics, cost, or ergonomics. Strong mechanical aptitude, communication, and coordination of stakeholders. </li><li>Conduct design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, statistical analysis, cost estimation and project documentation to ensure solution viability. </li><li>Solution Invention and Identification </li><li>Lead or support finding optimal solutions for projects focused on cost reduction, quality improvement, and new product introduction. Use data-driven problem-solving to identify root causes and evaluate potential solutions. </li><li>Analysis, Testing and Documentation of Solutions </li><li>Prototype and analyze solutions including components, assemblies and processes. Lead design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, FMEAs, statistical validation, redesigns and testing of solutions. Create documentation in support of solution development. </li><li>Solution Implementation Oversee the creation of component tooling, approve first article samples and drive design-for-manufacturing efforts. Collaborate with process engineering to develop processes and train operators on engineered solutions. Collaborate with product </li><li>Ensure all designs and documentation are clear and well organized. </li><li>Communicate with company leaders to update and educate on designed solutions and progress. </li><li>May assist in presenting at product training seminars and annual launch or sales meetings. </li><li>Coordinate suppliers to source materials, create first article samples and documentation. </li><li>Attends trade shows and peruses trade publications to maintain a current level of knowledge of materials available for tooling purposes. </li></ul> <p>Who you are</p> <ul> <li>The Individual Contributor Competencies are abbreviated in this job description; refer to Individual Contributor Performance Appraisal to view the full version. An Individual Contributor at Hunter Douglas Window Fashions, Inc. displays these characteristics: </li><li>Solid knowledge of computer uses and software, such as Word, Excel, Project, Minitab and CAD systems, preferably NX or SolidWorks. </li><li>Solid knowledge of various mechanisms and their applications, including gear systems, clutches, cams, and pulleys </li><li>Solid knowledge of spatial reasoning in designing stand-alone components and assemblies. </li><li>Solid knowledge in mechanical engineering, mechanical dynamics and statics. </li><li>Solid knowledge to work with principles of geometry and physics to calculate the design and performance capability of components. </li><li>Skill to read and understand engineering drawings. </li><li>Skill organizing and maintaining project documentation with attention to detail including correct grammar and punctuation. </li><li>Skill in developing and maintaining effective work relationships. </li><li>Ability to work on projects in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision. </li><li>Ability to analyze cause and effect relationships involved with engineering design. </li><li>Ability to use machine shop equipment, such as a lathe and end mill. </li><li>Ability to design plastic components for injection molding. </li><li>Ability to design for aluminum extrusion. </li><li>Ability in use of metrology instruments, such as calipers, gauges, comparators, and vision systems </li><li>Acceptable training and experience: Requires a BSME or 5 years of experience designing mechanical components.
