<p>Title: Adjunct Faculty - School of Health and Safety</p> <p>Agency: Mountain Empire Community Coll</p> <p>Location: Wise - 195</p> <p>FLSA: Exempt</p> <p>Hiring Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and following the VCCS-29 for faculty ranking.</p> <p>Full Time or Part Time: Part Time</p> <p>Additional Detail</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.</p> <p>Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach Health Sciences and Safety classes in various areas. We are seeking applicants available for on-campus, online, and nursing clinical instruction for daytime and/or evenings and/or weekends. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule and the VCCS-29 Faculty Ranking Profile. For further information, please contact the Dean or Administrative Assistant of the School of Health and Safety, at 276-523-2400 or jmullins@mecc.edu and aboring@mecc.edu.</p> <p>Adjunct instructor positions available for various areas in the School of Health and Safety, including but not limited to EMS, CNA, American sign language, phlebotomy, health information management, criminal justice, corrections, and CPR.</p> <p>Adjunct Faculty listings are on a continuous, open until filled basis. Applicants will be contacted on an as needed basis. Submission of on-line applications must also include unofficial transcripts of all college work completed.</p> <p>Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom/virtual/clinical environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. An adjunct is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and actively contributing to the academic, professional, and community life of the college. The role emphasizes instructional excellence through innovative teaching practices, curriculum development, and assessment. This position requires a commitment to continuous professional growth aligned with the college's mission and goals.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>In-depth knowledge of the specific discipline or subject area relevant to the teaching assignment. </li><li>Familiarity with diverse teaching strategies, instructional technologies, and assessment techniques to support student learning. </li><li>Understanding of higher education standards, accreditation requirements, and institutional policies. </li><li>Awareness of diverse student backgrounds, learning styles, and barriers to learning with strategies to promote an inclusive classroom environment. </li><li>Knowledge of college procedures, governance, and administrative requirements. </li><li>Ability to clearly convey complex concepts both verbally and in writing. </li><li>Skills in developing engaging, well-organized, and accessible course materials and activities. </li><li>Proficiency in designing assessments that accurately measure student learning and providing constructive feedback. </li><li>Competence with learning management systems (LMS), multimedia tools, and other educational technologies. </li><li>Ability to motivate students, foster critical thinking, and create a positive learning environment. </li><li>Flexibility to modify teaching approaches based on student needs, feedback, and evolving educational practices. </li><li>Upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect in all interactions. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in the teaching field or Associate's in the teaching field with demonstrated competency in teaching field. </li><li>Minimum of two years of related occupational experience. </li></ul> <p>Additional Considerations:</p> <p>Teaching experience in college-level courses.</p>
