<p>The Student Assistant will work in a team environment with Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA). They will be given the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of current technology and best practices as related to the archives field. This student should be interested in handling unique historical documents and/or working with imaging software and technology.</p> <p>As a project assistant, this individual will be given the opportunity to work with unique historical collections in one or more of the following ways:</p> <ul> <li>Scan documents, photographs, negatives </li><li>Transcribe and edit oral histories </li><li>Transcribe handwritten documents </li><li>Update documents and databases </li><li>Create descriptive data (metadata) for archival materials </li><li>Organize and describe archival materials </li><li>Digitize audio/visual formats </li><li>Help organize storage spaces </li><li>Provide reference and research assistance to patrons </li><li>Other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>The successful candidate will be self-motivated and willing to assist with other programs and activities taking place in the department. This is a 50/50 eligible position that requires applicants to be current, full time, Weber State University students with at least a 2.0 GPA.</p> <p>Work Schedule: Part-time, Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm flexible around class schedule.</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>This position is 50/50 eligible. </li><li>Proficient in the use of office productivity software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. </li><li>Ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Ability to lift 25 pounds.</p> <p>Background Check? Walking and standing only occasionally if ever. Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision. Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading. The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position. None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).</p>
