<p>IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE STARTING YOUR APPLICATION:</p> <p>YOU MUST COMPLETE THE APPLICATION IN ITS ENTIRETY AND SUBMIT THE APPLICATION BEFORE IT CAN BE SAVED IN THE SYSTEM.</p> <p>YOU MUST ANSWER ALL REQUIRED QUESTIONS AND COMPLETE ALL REQUIRED SECTIONS OF THIS APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH IREDELL COUNTY</p> <p>OVERVIEW & PURPOSE:</p> <p>Under limited supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities, with particular emphasis on carpentry. Work involves carpentry-related work requests such as installing door locks, painting/staining, concrete work, installation of doors, windows, and partitions; changing of ceiling tiles and other building related items; performing or assisting work in such building trades as electrical, HVAC, and/or plumbing. This position is responsible for performing a variety of equipment maintenance tasks for the Department. This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Field Supervisor.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Assumes primary responsibility for carpentry work orders in County buildings and facilities, knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the carpentry trade. Knowledge of applicable carpentry duties such as changing locks, painting/staining, building wooden structures, and any other carpentry-related work. Able to estimate height, width, length, and other proportions. Able to use chisels, planes, saws, and sanders. Work with prefabricated materials as well as construction of new materials. Creates structures for pouring concrete; repair and/or replacement of ceiling tiles and doors; Installation of doors and partitions. Studies plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations. Orders and purchases supplies and materials as required by jobs. Works with contractors to facilitate repairs, as needed.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>Performs essential carpentry related work and assist with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical tasks, as needed and/or assigned. Performs Road Sign maintenance if needed.</p> <p>Performs other related work as required including yard maintenance, storm clean up including the removal of snow and other tasks as needed to assist the department in completing assigned duties.</p> <p>Participate in On-Call (after-hours) rotation, which involves reporting any emergency calls needed after normal operating hours and weekends, as assigned.</p> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:</p> <p>Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in the facility maintenance.</p> <p>Working knowledge of the work hazards, related liabilities, and applicable safety standards (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and County standards.</p> <p>Working knowledge of County purchasing, budgeting and personnel policies and procedures.</p> <p>Some knowledge and skill in the application of information technology to assigned tasks.</p> <p>Skill in the operation of assigned equipment and tools, tractors, riding mowers, etc.</p> <p>Ability to serve as lead worker to create a productive work team and ensure work is completed correctly and safely.</p> <p>Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.</p> <p>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with part time workers, co-workers, supervisor, and citizens involved in use of municipal buildings, facilities, parks, athletic fields and recreational activities.</p> <p>Ability to prepare and maintain records of work activities.</p> <p>Ability to read and interpret blueprints and plans.</p> <p>Ability to solve problems related to weather related scheduling and facilities impact and other work issues with recognition of customer service priorities.</p> <p>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE "REQUIREMENTS":</p> <p>Graduation from High School and five (5) years of experience in construction trades or building maintenance work, with emphasis on carpentry work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL "REQUIREMENTS":</p> <p>Possession of a valid NC Driver's License.</p> <p>"PREFERRED" QUALIFICATIONS: NONE</p>
