<p>Job Description</p> <p>The Department of Cell and Developmental Biology is a vibrant, interdisciplinary and collaborative environment housing cutting-edge research that spans from investigation of single molecules to whole organisms. We study molecular, cellular and tissue organization in many of the laboratories within our department, seeking insights into fundamental biological questions and human diseases. We are an interactive department housing a top-ranked developmental biology program, a strong graduate student association, outstanding core facilities, and exceptionally strong faculty. Recent faculty recruits are studying cell migration using super-resolution microscopy, single molecule analysis of microtubule dynamics, systems biology of intestinal epithelia, stem cell biology, and the regulation of plasma membrane composition and ageing.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Maintain multiple mammalian cell lines using standard cell culture techniques. </li><li>Execute established molecular biology protocols such as genomic DNA isolation, RNA isolation, plasmid DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, PCR, western blotting, restriction enzyme digests, and RT-qPCR. </li><li>Generate DNA vectors via Gibson assembly and verify constructs by DNA sequencing analysis. </li><li>Generate stable cell lines by transfection, transduction, CRISPR knock-out, and CRISPR-mediated knock-in. </li><li>Prepare samples for, and analyze data from, flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) experiments. </li><li>Prepare Illumina-compatible libraries for next-generation sequencing experiments following established protocols. </li><li>Maintain an updated and accurate lab notebook, perform data analysis, and communicate with supervisor in a timely manner. </li><li>Perform daily lab tasks such as maintaining lab instruments and preparing buffers. </li><li>Follow written protocols and perform repetitive tasks with minimal error. </li><li>Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (or Mac equivalent). </li><li>Proficient with data analysis and visualization using R. </li><li>Assist with additional laboratory duties as assigned. </li><li>Maintain a clean work space. </li><li>Must be well organized and able to prioritize a work schedule. </li><li>Ability to adapt to changes in daily work, if necessary. </li><li>Attend laboratory meetings and present, if necessary. </li><li>Expected to have a strong work ethic, high integrity, and good interpersonal skills. </li><li>Follow all Vanderbilt Biosafety guidelines. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>A Master's degree in biology, biochemistry or a related field of study from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary. </li><li>Previous laboratory experience is necessary, and experience within a drug discovery project is preferred. </li><li>Highly motivated and eager to learn </li><li>Strong work ethic with ability to independently manage daily activity </li><li>Capable to perform detailed and reproducible experiments </li><li>Team player with polite disposition and good attitude </li><li>Communicates effectively and efficiently with lab members </li></ul>
