<p>Job Summary</p> <p>To define the role of an EMT in the Emergency Management Services Department in a patient care setting. EMT's may perform technical patient care functions in accordance with their scope of practice under state law and in accordance with the policy/procedure and under direction of the Paramedic. If there is any conflict between the state law regarding scope of practice and the policy/procedure, the more stringent shall apply. For example, if an activity is permitted under state law but not under policy/procedure, then the policy/procedure shall govern.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li>Maintains awareness of changing policies, procedures, and system processes in order to most effectively expedite patient care. </li><li>Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians and administration. </li><li>Provides patient care in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures as directed. </li><li>Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command. </li><li>Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions. </li><li>Ensure that supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner. </li><li>Correctly identifies and uses appropriate personal protective equipment. </li><li>Maintains supply availability and continually restocks areas as needed. </li><li>Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same. </li><li>Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills for all age groups. </li><li>Participates in departmental and unit specific performance improvement initiatives. </li><li>Completes timely documentation in the EMR in accordance with policy and procedure. </li><li>Demonstrates ability to safely operate emergency vehicles at all times. </li><li>Practices according to Indiana State EMS guidelines and regulations, applicable standards and regulatory guidelines. </li><li>Completes ambulance checks on every shift as assigned. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li><li>Complies with all policies and standards. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Technical School Completion of EMT Course required </li><li>Technical School EMT Advanced course preferred </li><li>0-1 years Clinical experience in a hospital settiing required </li><li>0-1 years Emergecy medicine experince preferred </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal and team skills </li><li>Medical terminology. </li><li>Ability to analyze and improve patient flow and operational processes. </li><li>Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories. </li><li>Knowledge of laboratory and quality control procedures. </li><li>Ability to conduct comprehensive health assessments </li><li>Works well in a team-based environment. </li><li>Ability to handle stressful situations and interact with others. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Drivers License - MDOT Medical Physical State drivers license required </li><li>EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Certification EMT- Certification required </li><li>BCLS - Basic Life Support required </li></ul> <p>State Specific Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Indiana: IDHS EMT Certification </li></ul>
