This full-time, University Staff (unclassified) position will work with the Director of Health Professions and faculty advisors to provide exceptional academic advising for undergraduate students who have declared pre-health as an area of emphasis and post-baccalaureate students returning to enhance their academic qualifications for application for professional health programs or careers. The successful candidate for this position should be prepared to articulate their passion for supporting diverse college students through a developmental and culturally responsive orientation to health professions advising. Additionally, the successful candidate should demonstrate their experience working effectively and collaboratively as part of a team to support a high volume of students.</p> <p>Health Professions Advisor</p> <p>What you will do:</p> <p>Under the direction of the Health Professions Program Director, the Health Professions Advisor will:</p> <ul> <li>Advise any university student, prospective student, and alum who intends to pursue a health profession, including, but not limited to, medical, dental, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, respiratory therapy, physician assistant, podiatry, optometry, and public health. </li><li>Assist students in assessing their interests, values, and abilities as related to their educational/career goals through in-person, phone, and email exchanges. </li><li>Advise students on prerequisite coursework, semester-by-semester planning, admissions testing, and the application process in one-on-one advising appointments and group advising sessions. </li><li>Prepare for and participate in on- and off-campus recruitment activities and events. </li><li>Prepare for and facilitate in-person and virtual health professions advising presentations and appointments. </li><li>Manage internal and external relationships by serving as the Operation's spokesperson, operating in partnership with the Director, and other students and advising services on campus. </li><li>Connect students with relevant experiences outside of the classroom, such as volunteering, research, and clinical experience. </li><li>Refer students to on- and off-campus support services. </li><li>Interpret and communicate information about complex college and university policies and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Academic Advising Functions</p> <ul> <li>Advise students on a pre-health track in one-on-one advising meetings. </li><li>Offer guidance in educational planning by advising students on registration, course offerings, educational policies, semester-by-semester planning, and degree audits. </li><li>Partner with students to develop advising relationships that foster students' sense of belonging to college and campus communities. </li><li>Engage in professional development activities to remain current with health professions advising best practices. </li></ul> <p>Advising Systems and Technology</p> <ul> <li>Use CU Student Integrated Systems (CU-SIS), Civitas Inspire, CollegeSource Systems (i.e., TES and Transferology Lab), OnBase, and Slate by Technosolutions to advise students. </li><li>Use web-based tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Qualtrics) to facilitate advising presentations and experiences, including online/virtual advising appointments, communicate with colleagues, and support assessment of Operation's initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualification)</p> <ul> <li>A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university </li><li>One year of full-time professional-level higher education experience in health professions advising or other academic or student affairs office or position (paraprofessional experience, including graduate assistantship experience, may not be counted as full-time professional-level experience) </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)</p> <ul> <li>Direct experience working with undergraduate students in an advising or new student or retention programs, including health professions advising, orientation, student and academic support programs, or other enrollment and retention activities. </li><li>Demonstrated experience utilizing technology to support proactive and effective health professions advising practices and processes across multiple modalities (i.e., in-person, phone, and virtual/remote). </li><li>Experience supporting a large and diverse caseload of students. </li><li>A master's degree (completed or in progress) in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, counseling, education or related fields from a regionally accredited college or university or two years of full-time professional-level experience in a health profession advising setting or student affairs office or position. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Outstanding student service skills. </li><li>Effective written and oral with the guidance and support of senior team members. </li><li>Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and requests, and work in a fast-paced environment. </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with campus partners throughout the college and institution. </li></ul> <p>Conditions of Employment</p> <p>The Health Professions Programs Operation supports approved flexible schedules and hybrid work consistent with the needs and responsibilities of this position.
