Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the community several days a week. In this position you can expect to work on site at least three days a week at the Republic Plaza at 370 17th Street, Denver, CO 80202. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <p>At the Department of Housing Stability (HOST), we are committed to support Denver residents as healthy, housed and connected. We invest resources, create policy, and partner with various organizations to help keep residents in the homes that they already live in, quickly resolve an experience of homelessness, and connect residents to new housing opportunities. To support these efforts, the department helps to:</p> <ul> <li>Stabilize residents at risk of involuntary displacement and connect residents to housing resources such as home repairs, rent and utility assistance, and legal support. </li><li>Support residents experiencing a crisis and connect them to housing, shelter and other services to get stabilized quickly. </li><li>Create and preserve existing affordable housing and connect residents at any income level to new housing opportunities through programs such as down-payment assistance or counseling services. </li><li>Support financial services, contracting and procurement, data analysis and strategic planning, administrative resources, and communications across the housing continuum. </li></ul> <p>As an Associate Accountant, you will be responsible for process refunds, reconcile data, general ledger, review journal vouchers, audit records, and provide customer service for internal and external stakeholders. HOST distributes over $150 million in contracts and other payments. You will report to the Accounting Supervisor.</p> <p>Specifically, as the Associate Accountant you will:</p> <ul> <li>Process refunds and reconcile data for housing affordability programs/systems. </li><li>Prepare routine accounting/financial reports, spreadsheet reconciliations, data compilation, and assist with creating quarterly and annual reports. </li><li>Reconcile various general ledger accounts to ensure all revenue and reimbursements are recorded promptly and accurately. Follow up and resolve any IBTs, journals, and open invoices that are not paid timely or posted incorrectly in the financial system. </li><li>Review, create, and enter routine journal vouchers into financial systems, ensure accuracy of documents, and matches records and reports to expenses. </li><li>Perform routine audits of financial records and transactions, identifies and researches discrepancies, and resolves or makes recommendations for corrective action. </li><li>Assist with conducting special projects regarding financial transactions, researches and analyzes accounting issues, performs financial calculations, and creates reports and compiles supporting documents for management review. </li><li>Review financial data in preparation for Federal and internal audits. </li><li>Review and understand contract/loan agreements, DOTs, covenants, and closing documents for loan transactions. </li><li>Provide increasingly more complex information and assistance regarding accounting information/transactions and work with supporting teams to resolve issues. </li><li>Reconcile data between three to four data systems daily to ensure accurate posting within all. </li><li>Work with stakeholders both internal and external to the City of Denver; responds to inquiries within 48 hours. </li></ul> <p>What You'll Bring</p> <p>We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. You'll be right at home here if you cultivate strong relationships and push yourself, your work, the people around you and Denver to the next level.</p> <p>Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>At least two years of previous professional accounting work with experience in reconciliations, trial balance reviews, and understanding expense documentation requirements. </li><li>High familiarity with HUD or other Federal Grant programs. </li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively. </li><li>Ability to meet many monthly, quarterly, and yearly deadlines. </li><li>Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. </li><li>High integrity and work ethic, commitment to quality work and attention to detail with very large amounts of data/documentation with a drive to learn and improve. </li><li>Passion for creating diverse, equitable and inclusive communities. Thorough understanding of homelessness or housing programs to ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion goals. </li></ul> <p>Required Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. </li><li>Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional level accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports. </li><li>Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
