This specialized classroom will be located at our Intermediate School.</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY</p> <p>Under the supervision of the Director / Assistant Director of Special Education, the Transition Special Education Teacher supports students in developing the academic, vocational, and independent living skills necessary for post-secondary success. This role emphasizes real-world application, community-based learning, and individualized transition planning aligned to each student's IEP goals.</p> <p>The ideal candidate must have experience in working with students with learning needs, making instructional adaptations, working collaboratively with multiple staff and community-based members, job coaching/career readiness skills, and providing assistance for students with multiple needs.</p> <p>RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. </li><li>Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning for pre-employment transition services. </li><li>Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for pre-employment transition services and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction. </li><li>Teaches knowledge and skills and promotes creative thinking and analysis as it relates to pre-employment transition services. </li><li>Designs learning activities to apply to everyday existence and problem-solving. </li><li>Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs. </li><li>Continues to acquire professional knowledge and follows current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research. </li><li>Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. </li><li>Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents. </li><li>Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. </li><li>Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. </li><li>Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's Degree</p> </li><li> <p>Valid PA Instructional I or II Teaching Certificate:</p> </li><li> <p>Special Education PK-12 (9231) or</p> </li><li> <p>Special Education 7-12 (9227) or</p> </li><li> <p>Other K-12 Special Education Certificates that are still effective (e.g., 9235, 9220, 9240, etc.)</p> </li><li> <p>Related teaching and community-based work experiences</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of applied behavior analysis preferred</p> </li><li> <p>Willingness to be flexible in terms of teaching assignment within the school setting</p> </li><li> <p>Completion of all mandated pre-employment documents</p> </li></ul> <p>Dallastown Area School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).</p>
