<p>Wakefield Public Schools</p> <p>Position Title: Middle School Social Studies Teacher</p> <p>Department: Social Studies</p> <p>Reports To: School Principal</p> <p><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>____</strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></strong></p> <p>SUMMARY: To establish an effective rapport with staff and students; to motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in the area of social studies.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Holds necessary state certification for job assignment; prior job experience is preferred.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.</p> <ul> <li>Teaches skills and knowledge in social studies instruction at grade level, utilizing course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities. </li><li>Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. </li><li>Evaluates each pupil's progress toward mastery of the standards, frameworks, and skills through various measures of performance to include, but not be limited to, tests, quizzes, presentations and projects. </li><li>Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self selected professional growth activities. </li><li>Complies with district policies and administrative rules and directives. </li><li>Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. </li><li>Implements all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. </li><li>Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. </li><li>Performs such other duties as the district may from time to time assign. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>Supervises classroom and students and volunteers.</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT STATUS:</p> <p>Unit A Teachers' contract</p> <p>EVALUATION:</p> <p>Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of School Committee policies on evaluation.</p> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
