<p>Introduction</p> <p>Anticipated opening for the 2026-2027 School Year.\n\n\nMaryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse,\nbilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and\nexemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to\nensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong\nlearners.??As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can\njoin us in the education of the children at MSD.\n</p> <p>LOCATION OF POSITION</p> <p>MSD,\nFrederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\n</p> <p>Main Purpose of Job</p> <p>To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf Students.\n</p> <p>POSITION DUTIES</p> <p>Plan, deliver, and assess classroom instruction and hands-on lab\nexperiences in areas such as food preparation and presentation, diverse\ncuisines, nutrition and healthy eating, baking, hospitality, culinary\nterminology, kitchen management, culinary industry practices, hospitality and\nsafety and sanitation. Design and make materials to facilitate student\nlearning.\n\n\nIntegrate bilingual and visual\ninstructional strategies\nthat support language access and comprehension for deaf and hard-of-hearing\nstudents, including collaboration with interpreters as needed.\n\n\nFacilitate real-world culinary experiences through school catering events, pop-up\nkitchens, and internships, guiding students in professional standards of food\nservice, teamwork, and customer interaction.\n\n\nSupervise and mentor students during on-campus events and off-site\nculinary experiences and student internships to ensure safe, high-quality, and\neducational practices.\n\n\nManage and operate the Veditz Caf?, providing students with opportunities to\napply culinary and business skills while serving teachers, staff, and visitors\nduring regular hours and special events.\n\n\nDeliver ServSafe? instruction and\ncertification, ensuring students\nunderstand and demonstrate food safety standards required by the industry.\n\n\nMaintain a safe, clean, and organized\ncommercial kitchen environment\nthat meets local health codes and supports effective learning.\n\n\nDevelop and maintain weekly lesson plans aligned to course standards and\nexpectations, using student data and assessments to differentiate instruction\nand promote mastery of culinary competencies.\n\n\nImplement IEP accommodations and\nsupplementary aids,\ncollecting data and collaborating with support staff to monitor progress and\nensure equitable access.\n\n\nCoordinate and coach students for the Deaf\nCulinary Bowl (DCB)\nand other competitions, fostering leadership, creativity, and pride in their\nculinary skills.\n\n\nPromote\na positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages creativity, critical thinking,\ncollaboration, and respect for diverse cuisines and cultures.\n</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education: Bachelor's degree required.\n\n\nCandidates must be eligible to apply for or be\nwilling to obtain licensure by the Maryland State Department of Education and\nServSafe? certification within a prescribed amount of time.\n\n\nFluency in American\nSign Language and written English required.\n\n\nKnowledge of the deaf culture, deaf\neducation, students with additional disabilities, and ability to teach students\non different levels and with varying educational and language acquisition\nbackgrounds is required.\n</p> <p>DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Master's degree in Education or special education of Deaf\nstudents, Maryland State Department of Education\nCertification.\n\n\nExperience/knowledge in pastry/baking.\n\n\nVocational experience in the culinary arts\nindustry and/or experience in K-12 culinary arts instruction and certification\nin ServSafe? preferred. \n</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>New hires are subject to a criminal background\ninvestigation at their own expense.
