<p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK</p> <p>HOURS OF WORK: Year-round, 20 - 28 hours per week</p> <p>DESCRIPTION OF WORK:</p> <p>An employee in this class is responsible for performing a wide variety of janitorial and routine maintenance tasks in municipal City buildings. The employee may receive specific assignments from a superior, but must assume some responsibility for achieving desired results.</p> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Sweeps, scrubs, buffs and waxes floors. </li><li>Cleans restroom facilities and drinking fountains. </li><li>Dusts surfaces, washes walls, washes windows, collects and carries out trash. </li><li>Performs other custodial and cleaning tasks as necessary to maintain a clean, sanitary complex and grounds. </li><li>Reports all obvious safety hazards to supervisor. </li><li>Performs related work as required. </li><li>Demonstrates predictable and regular attendance. </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Some knowledge of janitorial equipment and supplies, and of their efficient and effective use in cleaning a large office complex. </li><li>Ability to perform physical labor required for cleaning duties. </li><li>Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with other employees and the public regarding janitorial and minor maintenance needs. </li><li>Ability to react to change productively. </li><li>Ability to work as a team member. </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:</p> <p>Some janitorial or custodial experience, preferably in a large public building or housing complex.</p> <p>NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Reliable transportation required. </li><li>Must submit to a criminal history check, drug screen, and physical. </li><li>Must be 18 years of age. </li></ul> <p>POST OFFER REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Satisfactory completion of criminal history, physical, and a drug screen that tests for illegal drugs as defined by the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act but not those legalized under Michigan law.</p>
