<p>Public Works Fleet Management has multiple Mechanic Technician positions available. Selected candidates may be offered a position as a Mechanic Technician I ($42,536 - $65,936), Mechanic Technician II ($49,254 - $76,336), or, Mechanic Technician III ($57,012 - $88,358) depending on the qualifications of the individuals and shop needs.</p> <p>Representative work duties include but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, battery checks and safety checks as well as State Inspections as licensed/capable</p> </li><li> <p>Performs repairs such as minor tune-ups, replacing water pumps, radiators, brake air compressors, hydraulic lines and hoses, brake shoes, and servicing of aerial ladders and platforms</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in more complex repairs such as servicing heater and air conditioning systems, and differential and transmission repairs.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform road repairs at local police precincts and outlying areas of the city</p> </li><li> <p>Transports heavy equipment to repair facilities for specialized service or repair.</p> </li><li> <p>Tows light and medium duty vehicles to the main garage for additional work</p> </li><li> <p>May require employees to perform work outside in any and all-weather conditions. Must be capable of responding to occasional after-hours service call-outs.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be safety-conscious and unafraid of heights- job may require employee to work on tall equipment.</p> </li><li> <p>This position is designated ALPHA I and individuals may be required to work in emergency events and inclement weather.</p> </li></ul> <p>The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in diesel engines, air brake systems, and advanced electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting, hold ASE certifications, and be experienced with computerized fleet maintenance and work order systems.</p> <p>Supplemental Pay:</p> <p>Employees may be eligible to receive up to $6,000 annually in stipends for certifications and licensure related to their position. Supplemental pay is distributed across 26 pay periods and includes:</p> <ul> <li>Up to $2,500 annually for Mechanics who maintain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications </li><li>$1,000 annually for Mechanics who maintain a Virginia State Inspector's License </li><li>2,500 annually for Mechanics who maintain an EVT Certification </li></ul> <p>All supplemental pay is included in the hourly rate when calculating overtime hours worked during a pay period.</p> <p>CDL Hiring Bonus: Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $2,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:</p> <ul> <li>$500 with the first paycheck </li><li>$500 after the six-month interim evaluation (requires a "meets expectation" performance rating) </li><li>$1,000 at the conclusion of the probationary period (requires a "meets expectation" performance rating) </li></ul> <p>Shift Differential Pay:</p> <p>Some positions are designated as Evening Shift.
